MAP Sensor Cleaning
Hey folks ....... like many others I'm having some turbo problems and have been advised it needs a new one ... ouch! ..... mind you at 6 years old and 106k on the clock it's probably not surprising given some of the other failures listed here. Before I dig deep and bring a smile to my mechanics face I thought I would try cleaning the MAP sensor which quite a few of the members have recommended ..... problem is I can't find the post with the before and after pictures of it .... anybody point me in the right direction?

Out of curiosity bigboz, what makes you think you have a turbo problem? Not saying you haven't and MAP Aclean up may/may not help but just wondering what symptoms you've got.

thanks for getting back to me ....... just cleaned the sensor which was covered in crud! The problem started with no power on moving away from a standing start .... then it would pick up with a surge and a cloud of black smoke out the exhaust ..... also have a engine system fault warning when I start the car ...... it went in for an annual service last weekend to a local LR specialist who I trust and he checked out the hoses, lubricated the actuator to no avail ..... fault messages are also telling him turbo failure. Car seemed to be going better when I left the garage, but when I pulled out to pass someone it died on me and went into limp mode ...... I'm no mechanic, but I reckon he is probably right

And if you're really lucky like me you can renew your CFT membership in about 40k miles again.
When my turbo packed up about July 10 it didn't get diagnosed & replaced for 9 months, but that was only one part of my shutting down issues. The MAP sensor (which I replaced) was also a major factor along with a POS non LR fuel filter that a certain dealership (that has the word RAT in it) fitted. Changing the turbo meant I lost the ESF message on shutdowns, cleaning he MAP sensor meant it was only in extreme conditions and it hasn't happened since changing the fuel filter. All good fun & frollicks.

Did he spray some lube on the actuator rod, or replace it? Unless the rod is taken off the car, and the bolt cleaned up, it wont cure the fault (and you wouldn't put the old rod back on anyway, as there is a new superceded part which will cure said fault )
Just worth thinking about before you splash out £1k on a turbo My D3 Build Thread

That part wasn't available for my second turbo, came out just after. Would have done mine, mind you as the body was taken off meant a few other midlife bits were done. Is she grateful, is she eckerslike, she's a LR!!

If its not fixed, I would rather spend £30 and a few hours labour on a new rod, and take a chance on a fix, instead of shelling out for a turbo straight away...My D3 Build Thread

Is it only "a few hours"? When I've searched for info on this, some threads seem to say the turbo has to come out to change the actuator. Any info would be really helpful, since our ESF fault is getting beyond a joke and 2k for membership of CFT seems a bit steep!

A "few hours" ? DiscoMikey has done a few and advised on others (including mine ) but I did it DIY with a mate helping and using a two-post lift, its a b rd of a job unless you take the body off access is via the nearside wheel arch and beneath, "access" I'm not sure is the right word as you would need arms/hands like a 3yr old and made of some unknown liquid metal! My actuator rod was seized but the thought of replacing just the rod and repeating the "out-in" procedure if it was some other fault made me go for the replacement unit (£850) but it sorted the problem
Time it took me/us? reckon 16hours!
ps Yes it has to come out as there is no way you can access it otherwise - or is there?
