Winter Rims and tyres for a new D3 owner!
With apologies for the amateurish nature of these questions, but I have painstakingly read the whole 20 pages of the "Wheels that will fit a D3" thread, but can't see anything specific on point for what I'm looking for...specifically, other than saying that 17" are the smallest rims, there does not seem to be any discussion as to whether I'd need to be careful as to whether any of the changes in spec to the D3 over the years means that, say 17" rims from an 04 D3 would fit my car. There was a reference to an '06 date and change in spec that did leave me concerned on this point
Have just bought a '58 D3 HSE with 19" original alloys. Am looking for a spare winter set and appropriate tyres - have experience of Vredstein Wintrac Xtremes on my Alpina, and am a huge fan of these.
Based on the above, anyone any comments on these rims?
I'd generally favour smaller rims for winter tyres, but again, there were comments on this compromising the ride quality, so a reasonable balance might be to stick with 19" Rims and get the better ride quality with a slightly worse performance in the snow.
Any and all comments welcome.
Thanks
Paul

The 17" D3s would be fine for your 58 HSE, as would any D3 18"EGR or 19"er. Some don't like 17s on looks, some on handling but I've run with them for years before standardising on 18"ers with ATRs. The ones on fleabay would be fine, price is high but early winter demand would be higher.

I have a set of 17" rims that look mint, only removed to fit some 20", they have 6+ mm all round, think two tyres were new a couple of months ago, if i was to sell them, after looking on ebay i would prob ask between 300 and 350, but thays what i have seen them go for, but you do see individual wheels sell for 10 quid think its time and place and if you want to wait etc.

Hi Paul,
I recently put some 17" wheels exactly the same as the ebay ones you highlighted on for the winter but with all terrain tyres. No problems with fittings. Only difference I note from my standard 18" rims and wrangler tyres is slightly increased road noise.
Just need some adverse weather now......

I was using 17"ers & Contis through much of the last 2 winters on SWMBO's D3 and they were excellent, considering it's a road tyre. Was going to get winter tyres but flogged it.
