D3, D4 Different ratings.

As I understand it from reading some of the posts in this section. D4 tyres are lower rated than D3 tyres. Down from 111 to 109. Shocked If this is so have the wheels been down rated as well? I read somewhere in this forum, but can't find it now Rolling Eyes that the Wheel loadings for the D3 were the highest, followed by the RRS, with the FFRR having the lowest. Obviously this must mean that the D4 is lighter than the D3, but by how much? I thought that they weighed the same! Confused

Nope, the D3 minimum allowable was always 109, but it's meant as a minmum not the recommended rating - the recommended is 111 and I believe it's the same for the D4. But I wait to be proven wrong Whistle

The D3 info is not "my view" but what was printed in the manual that came with the vehicle when we bought it in 2005. Got to be honest, I've not checked the D4 manual just using the same 111 rated tyres myself.

Also, it should be noted that the weight rating is tyre size specific, so it differs between 17,18,19 and 20 inch rims i.e. you can't jult go by the assumption that the 109 rating specified for a 20" tyres means you can use a 109 rated 19". Infact as far as insurerance is concerned I be very warey about using anything that differs from the size related ratings on the spec plate attached to the vehicle i.e. in my case on the inside back edge of my drivers door:

The difference between 109 & 111 rated tyres is 60kg per tyre not 20 so nearly a quarter of a ton for the
overall rating for the vehicle, quite a bit. seems silly not to play safe and have 111's for the sake of a few quid!

Intrestingly (for me anyway...) if I put my reg in the above site it states 111 for 19" rims and 109 for 20"s.
Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

Yup, totally agree with you on that XTC. That's also why I know a few details about this as I had to fight for a refund after being sold non-OEM wheels and tyres both of which were under spec'd for a D3 when I first had the D3 - which was before I knew of Disco3.co.uk.
