Well...
With mudflaps and towbar fitted, I called my insurance company (Privilege) to see if these were considered to be modifications. Mudflaps were not; towbar was - but no additional charge. New schedule being sent out.
My V5 says I have Discovery 4 HSE SDV6 (April 2011), which is what the back of the D4 says too. But my existing insurance schedule says Discovery 4 HSE TDV6. So thought I'd take the opportunity to change from TDV6 to SDV6. No go!
The woman who took my call was brilliant, but all she could get out of the underwriters was:
* I could class it as a Discovery 4 HSE SDV6 255 - but I said no, as that's the newer D4 and mine is only a 245
* I could class it as a Discovery 4 HSE TDV6 which is 245 - and that's what I had to settle on, because their database didn't have anything else.
So as long as both the underwriter and Privilege are "happy" with the options and choice, then I'm covered.

I did quite a lot of serching for s/h Disco 4's on the LR website, they had two options TDV6 and SDV6 for the 4.
The SDV6 search alwways brought up the new 255bhp model .............. but some had the 6 speed with gearlever ?
The power of the 245PS version of the LR-SDV6 has been increased to 256PS at 4,000rpm and the CO2 emissions substantially reduced from 244g/km to 230g/km. Maximum torque remains unchanged - 600Nm at just 2,000rpm. EU4 markets will continue to receive the 245PS version of the LR-SDV6 equipped with the existingLR4 HSE 5.0 V8 Alaska White

To continue the ongoing saga, I just called up Privilege about factory fitted optional extras I have:
* Xenon Adaptive Front Lighting with cornering lights and LED front signature lights
* Full sized spare wheel.
I had to notify them, but there was no additional cost on the policy for them.
Thinking about my earlier call to them and being classed as a HSE TDV6 and not a HSE SDV6, I asked whether I was down as a the standard HSE spec of 7 seater, or as 5 seater? The system had me down as a 5 seater, and so I had to notify them I was a 7 seater (no extra charge).
But methinks the system is classing me as a commercial TDV6 5 seater?
Anyway, I've notified them of enough differences to be up to HSE SDV6 spec now

I'm still not sure !!!
So is there a definitive answer ? I have just ordered a 2011 registered D4 HSE. It has SDV6 on the back, but the sales chap tells me its a TDV6. I suggested he changed the badge if it was a mistake.

Badging is different again in the land of Oz.
My 2009 3.0Lt D4 was badged '3.0 TDV6'. In 2010 they decided to change the 3.0Lt badge to 'SDV6'.
The 2.7Lt variant has always been TDV6.
The SDV6 badge did confuse us down under blokes for a while.
Cheers, Craig

Sales chap most likely confused. 2011 was SDV6 with 245 bhp and 2012 is SDV6 with 255 bhp engine. Change to SDV6 coincided with introduction of 3.0 litre engines in UK market.

Not dead right, the first D4 3.0 were badged as TDV6, it is as others have said down to the PDF and increase in power with the later cars fitted with PDF.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

You're right, my mistake. Although it's a DPF not PDF I believe.

Is it not the case that SDV6 has a touch more bhp than TDV6. The log book on the car I'm getting says TDV6, the badge says SDV6. Can someone point me to a VIN looker upper so I can tell for certain. I'm still not clear. Main reason for me is what I ask my kind insurance people to rob me, I mean quote me for ?

OK I can confirm now (I think)
Dealer tells me that the 2011MY that I have is actually what it says on the tin, ie a SDV6. Not a TDV6 that it says on the log book. So I have the 245bhp engine, with a 6 speed box (with a stick, not a knob).
Now thats cleared up, I can start to enjoy it cos I picked it up this evening. 8)
