Hi all.
I just got hold of a second hand cool box that was (apparently) tested prior to despatch and worked fine. I have fitted it and cannot get it to work. I have installed per the Land Rover Worksop Manual and have connected to the spare connector tucked away under the floor console upper panel. Initially I didn't have power but I checked the fuse and (no 60, I think) replaced. I now have power to the grey connector but the box still doesn't work. Before I return it, has anyone got any ideas with something I may have missed????

Try it with the engine running 
May sound stupid , but if it is a D3 one they have a cut out on them that stop them running the battery flat
Cant remember the min voltage they need to get going but it is lilkely to be more than you have if you have been
tinkering for a while.
Start the car & it should click in after a couple of secs.....
I know 'cos I had the same issue when i fitted mine originally  Cheers Ian

Mine also only runs ( and shows the green light on the switch) when the engine is running. I too have read that this is to stop it from running your battery down when the engine is off. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

Steve, the D4 has a switched live as D4 coolboxes dont have the electronics to turn them off when battery gets low. The D3 has a permanent live and the D3 coolbox has the electonics.

Are you sure about that Dan? I have the fridge in both ,my D3 and my D4 and they are both definitely off when the engine is off. Not looking to argue here but I promise you it is definitely the case with both cars. Both were factory fitted too. I am now curious as to why some people are saying different? Maybe differeing specs from earlier/later model years perhaps?

Also Dan, the D4 DOES have the electronics to shut down everything if the power gets too low. Usually, 15 minutes or so of television on triggers the " Low Power" warning which then warns that it will shut everything down in 2 minutes or something similar. If the cars didn't have this function then the batteries would be dying PDQ due to the current drain. Igniton off = everything off once the car has gone to sleep. Apparently they draw 17AMPs or so with just the ignition on.

Well i wont bet my life on it steve!!  I was referring to the coolboxes themselves having the electronics. The D3 boxes were alot more expensive than a D4 one for that very reason. A D3 box in a D3 should keep running after the car shuts down. Put a D4 box in a D3 and leave on at yr peril!!
Not sure why yr D3 has a switched live but then again thats land rivers!!
Maybe one of the electronic experts will be along to confirm either way

Dan just to confirm I have the right end of the stick - Are you talking about the cubby fridge between the front seats or the cool box accessory that plugs into one of the power sockets? If the latter then You could well be right, if the former then I can only go by the evidence of my own eyes........that and 1 D3 and 4 D4s

BTW I think that the refrigerated cubby boxes are identical between D3 and D4 models AFAIK My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

D3 & D4 boxes do differ AFAIK. D3 one will stay on after ignition is shut off til volts drop then switch itself off. In a D3 the D4 one will shut down once it has squeezed the last drop out of the battery. In the D4 ISTR the feed is ignition live so doesn't need the voltage sensor.

Well that'll be me told then! Strange, because as far as I can see both mine work in exactly the same way. Also, I thought that there was recent issue of the D3 type on Ebay that all fitted and worked in the D4 equally as well? I'm sure some members on here partook of said offer, not to mention TLOs group buy a while back..... or did I just imagine all that? Could have been to many strong painkillers! Just coz it's said with authority doesn't mean it's right though.
They'll both work the same on a D4 but on the pre-facelifted (original) flavour they behave differently, unless the battery is weak and it always trips the volt sensor. Once left mine on overnight with a pint of milk in it, the milk was frozen next morning.
