Shuddering on the M6

Not sure if this can happen, well it did. Car was pleasantly driving down south from Preston and then the the car starts vibrating as if I had a puncture...

It stopped as I slowed down to 70mph. Pulled up at a junction and noticed some brake burning smell from the rear drivers side wheel in addition to some smoke

Anyway carried on my journey without further issue.

Car seems to be of no issue last few days. I thought better take a look at the damage. Looks like the rear disc is toasted with burning marks around the hub part.

I have only recently had the rear pads and discs done by a LR tech..so will be picking this up with me.

Is this a case of the EPB locking up whilst driving??

sounds like rear caliper seizing
when doing pads it's normal to squeeze the piston back into the caliper housing to make more room for the new pads
maybe that was all it needed to bind it up
has happened often here, as well as other guys on the forum

Nick

But then the scorching is on the hub part and not the disc part...which too me points to the hand brake mechanism within the hub... Sad

exactly what mine did on the M40 - EPB stuck partly on. Mine got so hot it popped the center cap out of the alloy. It was a recovery truck home for me.

Just had a partly seized rear caliper replaced on mine yesterday.
Also needed new pads because of it.

Vibration was like driving over small rumble strips.
