Kangarooing.......

Help!! Big Cry

I have recently purchased my 55 plate Discovery 3 and I have a problem!

When going up a certain hill the car starts kangarooing like mad going up the hill, if I put my foot down it gets better but it is a fault I would rather have sorted out!

Can anyone help??

Debbie

I saw on TV yesterday a V8 Supercar just missing a Kangaroo, that was at the Bathurst 1000 in the cutting which is steep uphill too. The kangaroo got a fright I think the car was doing about 140kph at the time.
Good one Skippy.

not so sure it would be EGR's - do you have other symptoms? eg no power below 2,500 revs and then the power kicks in ? (even on the flat). That would point more to the EGR's.

Blocked fuel filter comes to mind...?
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Hi Debbie

Welcome to the forum... Thumbs Up

Is it the same irrespective of who is driving - if not, it could it be a driving style thing? If so, then a mechanical fault seems most likely.

Diesel or Petrol? (think Petrol still available on a 55 plate?)

You say it happens on a "certain" hill - do other similar hills not show the same problem? Might be something in the road surface (assume it is a road, not an offroad hillclimb... Very Happy )

Does the engine speed hunt up and down at idle?

Is it worse in low range?

Is it a manual or auto?

If it's auto I'm stuck, but a manual (esp if it's worse in low range) this sounds like it could be a transmission fault, clutch or worn CVs.

Difficult to hazard anything better than a guess without actually experiencing it. Sorry, more questions than answers...

Spec says Auto, so could be that the Auto Box oil could do with changing which may help, or it may be the increasingly concerning Torque Converter.

Must be severe to get Kangarooing though. Unless the profile is wrong and it's a Manual, in which case, it's the clutch and flywheel.

If Auto, first step if to fluch the autobox. Thumbs Up

Fuel filter ??

does it only happen going up hill ?

I doubt very much if it is a driving style thing - unless you make a habit of dancing on the pedals Laughing

It could be transmission and need a double gearbox flush.

Where in Somerset are you ?

Would also suggest the auto gearbox.

We live in Wincanton and when travelling East towards Sparkford first thing in a morning, it does the same thing up the first incline on the A303. Regardless of the load, speed or incline, it'll behave all day long afterwards - it's just when cold. I'm hoping that a double flush at my service next month will sort it

Thanks everyone for your replies.

We have a 55 plate diesel auto - it only does it on this one hill Confused

I have got a AA man out today who has said it is either a fuel filter or EGR - when plugged in it did come with an unrelated EGR fault, he still thinks it is a fuel problem.

We are going to put a new filter on it tomorrow and take it up that hill again... I have everything crossed that it will be fixed - I love my Disco!

What a wonderful site this is... everyone is so nice and helpful - thank you!

Debbie
