Martin, to be fair, it does depend on at which point the switch pivots. The text does make it clear that the common point goes to the relay. And anyone attempting this mod, would need to know what they were doing
Its excellent, especially the bit with the diodes - not something I would have thought about - but brought about due to the modern way lights work and monitoring systems. The way I would traditionally have triggered the aux relay would be to jump off the feed to the lights - but that would most likely upset the computers.

True
I'm not trying to criticise Iain's diagram, just clarify what I (as an electrical engineer) see as a minor inconsistency between the diagram and how Iain's kit works 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Oh I give up, I've tried and failed.
The switch diagram is not the best, but is not incorrect. The two left connections are the two 'on' states, RHS is the common and the middle 'off' position is not marked. Ideally all the switch positions would be shown by dotted lines, but that is my only criticism of the symbol.

From your description I think you're looking at the diagram in my post, which is the one I modified

Balls, I didn't realise you modified my diagram, I just kept looking at the last one on the topic without realising it had been doctored . Looking back you did say you modified my picture so it is me been an idiot. Now is there a section on the site where folk caught been muppets are sent to, I shall make me way over.

I heard that penny drop from here
And you know what, I even thought "shall I put a note on the image that I've modified it ... nah".

And I was looking at Iain's original diagram as well as Martins revised one
And I only got a HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering - and now mostly do management (Got an OU qualy in that too) and controls. Mark.

Do any of you know if the LR supplied wire loom could be adapted to achieve this same set up?
I'd like my lights to work independent of the high beams and work with the low beams or fog lights.

Nice, that's a really tidy job. I did these bad boys on my old 300 tdi 440 watts of light turned night into day,
I used a simple relay off the main beam but fused every hot wire down so could use 1mm cable which hid the wires well down the windscreen

If you find the relay that turns the lamps on, find out if a positive or negative is used to switch it on on duplicate this feed via a dash mounted switch.

I think I can use the LR supplied switch. It sounds like all i need to do is find the positive and negative (ground cable to make it work and bypass the body module ecu all together.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I believe the ECU turns the relay on directly. The switch just gives the ecu a signal to turn them on. I may be wrong but if this is the case trying to simply give the original switch an alternative feed will not work.
Calling lights wiring diagram anyone

I figured it out.
I just used your schematic as a guide and improvised where I had to. Hopefully we won't have any fires
I used the LR loom from lights to relay, then made the rest from there. I was able to use the supplied driving lights switch, but only the green back light illuminates when poser is on.
Thank for the help. The only way to get the lights to work independent is to wire them directly from the battery. I didn't find a better method out there.
Cheers

Does anyone know where a connector to go into the LR 2nd Switch for the spots can be purchased? I have the switch and my home made loom ready but don't want to bodge the connection??

Thread resurrection but it's the most technical thread I've come across.
If I was to buy the harness in the photo and add my wire and switch that I've poorly drawn to it, would it work? Or would I need the main Beam input to be both flash and main. Or does it depend where you take the feed from, the stalk or the rear of the lamp?
