The use of that combination of trailer and hitch would need to be a clear cause of any accident for your insurers to be able to frustrate the claim or invalidate your insurance. The Financial Ombudsman Service have come down hard on this in recent years.
I fail to see the bit where any of use= voted for this "protection", that effectively means you have a tow device used by the military to pull multi-tonne loads in the world's harshest environments but can't use it to take a mattress to the local tip. I believe "f k 'em" is the phrase I would use to the right learned VOSA cock-monkey I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Bodsy,
Very informative - thank you!
Still a couple of outstanding questions...
- any thoughts on where to get the spacers from?
- should I approach RLD directly to organise the manufacture of v2 of the NATO -> D3 mounts that you've shown?

Brilliant! Lots to read...
Once I've digested that little lot, I'll be back if I've got any further questions.
Thanks too RLD for the offer - I'll be in touch once I've figured out what I need.

4 x wheel adapters - £282.90 inc p/p
20 x inner wheel nuts - £35 inc p/p ( £1.50 each + £5.00 postage)
20 x outer wheel nuts - £45 inc p/p ( £2.00 each - £5.00 postage)
4 x skimming 2 mm off inside of them - £20
20 x 2mm washers ...free from Uncle Ray
Total ...£382.90 for enough for 4 wheels . The other pair were sold to Discodunc for half the cost ( £191.45)
This is by far the cheapest price ..i did a lot of searching . Most places wanted nearly £400 just for the adapters on there own
Search on ebay for member lr90gmc ...he did the adapters and the inner nuts . ( item number eBay Item No. 280365127849 at the moment )
Outer nuts were from eblag also .

Like I said, not knocking RLD or his products but IMO people should be aware of it, and the issue shouldn't be brushed over with "I think, I'd do this, I do that" etc.

IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUALITY OF YOUR WORK.
It's to do with "type approval" and the D3 to be used with a sankey hitch does not have it as far as anyone knows!2014 D4 XS

If approvals is important, won´t a multi height towbar (MHT) (LR approved) and a Dixon bate (DB) nato hook (TUV approved) be the political correct answer. would the holes on the DB fit the MHT it did on my 110.
