Bodsy - you mean wheel boxes? I assumed they are sheet steel as they were welded, and I understand welding Aluminium is... challenging?

You can weld aly with a mig if you use about half power and push rather than pull the weld so the gas stays on it longer. The welds look like aly, but I'm sure wiggs will be along soon with an answer Bodsys Brake Bible

Fair enough, my knowledge on the subject extends to watching "a 4x4 is born" several years ago... if only we all had a workshop supplied by vendors

Wheel arch boxes are ali ..and have been ali welded ( not by me ..as there is more too it than just low power )
Ali and steel cannot be welded together ( or i have been told its not good to try ) . The wheel arch boxes will be riveted on with a waterproof mastic sealer between the ali and steel .G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Im hoping this will be enough to stop the galvanic corrosion that can happen ....
Only time will tell
Just picked up all my plate for the doors and 2 full sheets of ali for finishing the front taper ( although im not sure what im doing with that yet ( fixed outside / inside ????...doors / no doors )
Now got to go and drill all the holes for the rivets ..so there ready for when i have sprayed the frame / door frames . Got a load of new drill bits and am ready to go .G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Are you using the rivets that have a closed end? Otherwise you may end up with leaks through the rivet itself.

mmmm... rubber mastic will stop water through the outside of the rivet, but water could get through the inside of the rivet and into the mild steel tubes.
Would still take a while to rust through, but it's a risk with the steel tubing. Might not be a high risk though, but only you know that one when you're putting it together Bodsys Brake Bible

I did mine in exactly the same place they were already, which was about every 250mm staggered, give or take.
you can see the rivets on the side here.
the underside was corrugated aly panel remember
The thicker aly at the bottom has rivets much closer together.

How come you had to re-panel your bodsy, looks like I would have expected it to arrive (apart from colour)?

Most of the rivets were heavily coroded or heads had popped off (it's a fair few years old), I started doing only the ones that had fully come off, but realised that actually, I may as well do them all as it wasn't that much more work (in actual fact was easier) it also allowed me to knock a few dents out as well (still visible today, but much smoother than before) Bodsys Brake Bible
