Hi Cold_n_Wet,
I love what you have done to your Tonka! And the fact you have shared it all with us in so many fine photographs
We own a late 2006 HSE TDV6, Java black, and I am planning some mods myself. I see you have installed led flashers at the back. At least I think I can see them on the roofrack. Can you tell me how many did you install? Where did you install them, also in the front? Where did you get them from (some Chinese website or are these the expensive professional ones)? Do you use a SHO-ME flasher or do they have integrated controls? By the way: are they legal to use in Norway in hazardous situations, where you would normally use the car's own warming lights, or do you have a permit to use them?
A final question on the additional reversing lights of vision X you installed. Are they any good? Why didn't you go for regular worklights and connect these to the reversing lights? I take it you installed a relay to switch the additional lights, so that you can also use them as worklights independant of the reversing lights?
Lots of questions, I know, sorry for that. Keep up the modding and keep us updated
Best Regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
The LED strobes were purchased a few years ago after almost getting hit recovering a danish guy in a yotata in the winter months the X5 driver claimed he couldnt see the hazards on the defeaner. So I bought these strobes and never got round to install them.
As the Front runner has a good slot system they were easy to fit on the D3.
So far two are installed on the back, and I have wiring on the front of the rack as well, as I am waiting for some spots to arrive, I wish to mount these first.
The strobes have and integral control, I have programed them for quad splitt. A video is found here. (10,5Mb)
No permits required as far as I know off.
The litte VisionX solstice is amazing, as I tinted the windows aftermarket, the reversing lights I felt were quite poor, So I was looking for a small powerfull light.
I liked the visionX due to the small size. Also they fitted the FR rack quite well.
They are currently wired directly to the reverse lights, but I plan to wire a switch and diode and tap off the cigar sockets so that I can operated them independantly.
Cheers

Its been a busy week,
The solenoid for the winch was clicking but not powering the winch, So I had to strip the front and take of the bumper, and as I suspected, corosion on the solenoid connections.
Then while I replaced a broken brake light, I manged to short circuit the brake lights and the dash lit up like a christmas tree.
The faultmate came in handy after replacing some blown fuses and re-setting all kinds of faults.
Its MOT time soon and time for a new service, so hopefully she wont cost me an arm and a leg, however I have a suspision that some bushes will need to be changed.

I put on some carbon fibre wrap on the bonnet, camel trophy style, doesnt show up too good on the photo's.
Plan is that it will hopefully cut down on glare from the roof lights.
Time will tell

4 lights being ordered soon, going to powder coat them black too so they "fade in" between the roof and rack.

Specs look good, but maybe on the pricey side.
I have 2 vision X 3 watts on the back as reverse lights and they work really well.
So for spot I will keep the HID's and for close work flood, I think the LED from rigid / Vision X / China kopi will work.
The duallys from Rigid look really good, but looking at them they cannot be hung upside down, easily.
I am looking at 2 x 10" E series to go inbetween the strobes.

May is getting expensive
2 spindle rods to be charged, rear brake hose, play in the inner steering joints, regular service, then diff oils and transfer change, while starting on the inner steering joints the steering rack is leaking more than a goverment secret and Ive only done 85 k Kms.
New rack = expensive plus surcharge.
Will have to pospone the gear boxs flush and filter change.
