Just found this on the Landrover site:

"Last ten calls are not displayed. Phonebook can not be downloaded to the vehicle system automatically but can be downloaded using Bluetooth contact transfer (OBEX push) from the handset."

Sounds like a partial solution. Anyone know how to perform this action?

I'm a bit vague on Symbian OS but, I think that OBEX is the Bluetooth FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

Starting from that basis, I figured that there should be a way to transfer the contacts list from the N95 menu.

The following looks promising: go to Contacts, then Options, Synchronisation, Start.

This gives you a list of paired devices, and you can select Land Rover from there.

Suggest you are already paired before trying this - MY06 software on mine was not interested, but I would be very interested if it works with a later upgrade.

All this does is 'push' the contact list to the PTI when the PTI asks to see it... ie, does not actually download anything, just sends the data to the PTI for display on the head unit.

You can tell this as the contact list is available as soon as you pair the devices... on the FL2 (when they came out so may have changed now) you had to wait for ages (well actually flipping ages) for the phone to transfer the address book to the PTI... ie download it into the PTI.

The newer PTI is far better as you don't have to keep the contact list in the D3 up to date as its always 'reading' the phones contact list.

Quote:
OBEX is primarily designed for swapping binary objects between particular devices. This means that an OBEX is designed to function like http, as it allows the user to connect to a server in much the same way. Once connected to a server, the user can either make a request or provide objects to OBEX. Some of the objects that the user can chose to provide to OBEX include files, pictures, calendar entries and business cards.

So essentially each contact is treated as an object and is requested, then pushed to the PTI for display. Multiple objects can be pushed at once of course so you see a list of entries and not just one at a time.

And as you say above... with the Nokia the last call entries and recieved call entries are not available from the phone. Not really a problem I've worried about.

Windows Mobile devices (Touch Diamond for example) do appear to allow this. Although this particular phone has a habit of forgetting its allowed to connect automatically Rolling Eyes

I thought you had cracked it but it failed at the last hurdle. As soon as I selected "landrover" it flashed "disconnected" and returned to the contacts list. I looked a bit deper at the sync option and found a whole raft of sub menus to set up new profiles - requiring host names etc. This is beyond me but I suspect that these menus are for profiles for network synchronisation.

I am sure we are close - any other ideas?

Thanks

Thanks Simon. The new software on the MY09 has changed and the N95 is not fully compatible. As you will see from my other post, it seems that we are close to uploading with OBEX but I need a techy to help with detailed instructions. Cheers D4 HSE MY2015

I doubt that trying to sync to the PTI will work.

Australia 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Atacama SandDiscovery 3

Hi Folks,

Since you seem to be familiar with the LR blue tooth system and Nokia phones, wondered if you might have an idea on two problems I have.

After getting my 08 D3 I bought a Nokia E51 (it has HSDPA connectivity - as used in Oz - as well as GSM and is sold in the UK...the only one I could find thus equipped) and it paired well and appeared to upload the phone book ok.

All went well until I followed the Nokia recommendation to update the firmware.....it now uploads part of the phone book - seemingly roughly half of the entries under each letter. I have looked at the formatting of my phone book entries and can find no obvious difference between the entries that upload and those that do not....can anyone offer any suggestions?

In almost all other respects it works well - with the exception that if I am within bluetooth range of the vehicle - when it is NOT running, key removed and locked - and I receive a phone call, I cannot answer it on the phone as the car gets it - is there a solution other than switching off the bluetooth in the phone whenever I leave the car.....?

One option that is not available is re-instating the original firmware....Nokia do not support the reversal of a firmware upgrade (very helpful....!), so once done it is there until the next upgrade and I have had the software in the D3 checked and it is apparently the latest...

Any suggestions....?

Interesting... I have a MY08 and there is no downloading of phonebooks at all. The system fetches the data as requested.

Mind you, mine did come with the cradle installed as well so its effectively the last version of the old BT and hardwired PTI.

And yes... handset firmware updates can upset the whole thing.

You might want to try a hard reset of the handset - you WILL lose everything in the phone that you have added BTW - and then re sync all your contacts etc.

i.e. start the whole thing from fresh and re pair the two.

Does the head unit actually say its downloading the address book ?

Any phone I pair with my D3 has its phone book immediately available via the method outlined above. Even a Windows Mobile device and Sony Ericsson's.

For those who are interested, I've cracked it Very Happy Or at least my dealer pointed me inadvertantly to the solution. I rang LR "Customer Services" to try to talk to a specialist but was stone-walled by a jobs-worth. He told me to ring the dealer. So I did. "leave it with me" he said but admitted that he diddn't have a clue. I pointed him to the LR B/T website and off he went. He rang back later and said that he hadn't made much progress but someone had suggested that it was all to do with marking entries in the phonebook and sending them via B/T. I looked a little closer and saw the Business Card option. And that was it. Mark the entries you want to send, select the Business Card option, select that you want to send the cards via B/T and it will offer you the Landrover (as long as you are already connected). Hey presto the contacts end up in the Disco!

I have one outstanding issue, I cannot see how to delete entries in the phone book - I need to remove some duplicates.
