opinions on “miracle” liquids head gasket repair, PLEASE

and… I'll be specific, and I know there are no miracles in this matter...I'll tell you, quickly, my TDV6 D3 engine, mine since new, currently has 360,000 km and it really runs like a cannon...but about 4000 km ago it started to pour coolant liquid through the valve cap of the expansion tank... I throw it when I make a somewhat demanding trip or long trips on the highway at medium or high speed... THE LOW COOLANT MESSAGE HAS NEVER ARRIVED AND THE TEMPERATURE HAS NEVER RAISED ABOVE THE middle point. Since I THINK THE SYSTEM HAS OVERPRESSURE, I don't know why, I have changed the expansion vessel, plug, and recently the thermostat...no result...I only have to think about HEAD GASKET...but I rule out such an intervention because I think it would cost so much or more than the value of the car itself...I don't know much about mechanics, I'm a geologist, and there are my questions: APART FROM THE GASKET, WHAT I THINK ABOUT NOW, ARE THERE MORE ELEMENTS SUSPECTED OF BEING ABLE TO GENERATE THAT OVERPRESSURE? And above all, ARE MIRACLE ADDITIVES REPAIRING HEAD GASKETS EFFECTIVE OR ARE THEY A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY? I sincerely appreciate any opinion on this matter. Thank you and above all sorry for the long and heavy post!

Snake oil most of them in my opinion and are likely to cause further issues like heater blockages.

You could try a cheap "Sniff test kit" which will detect combustion gasses in the coolant if the leak is significant enough. The other alternative is a more expensive coolant pressure test kit.

Could a leaking fuel cooler cause this? Just a thought.

My stepson’s car had oil in the header tank, this was traced to a leaking cooler not a head gasket, it was a 2.0l C5.

My coolant is completely clean and without a trace of oil at all, the engine temperature is always correct.

Is you radiator fan performing correctly? The other possibility is an EGR cooler which is leaking coolant into the exhaust! You can sometimes detect this by removing the egr pipe to the throttle body and see if it's wet inside the egr valve?

You say coolant is coming out of the header tank which suggests overpressure.

This suggests to me a blockage.

I would drain and flush the system. While doing so remove and check the thermostst as it may have failed. It is not a big job, couple of hours. The part is cheap if it needs replacing.

Good luck.

In relation to your comment on head gasket repair fluids.

I had a Jeep Cherokee XJ that was losing a litre and a half of coolant every few days. I was told that the engine block needed replacing by two garages.

A local retired mechanic told me to buy 'K Seal' . A coolant additive that has microscopic particles in suspension that when added to coolant finds its way into any point where it seeps out.
I added this and after a day the leak stopped. Totally.
Five years on amd zero issues with leaks or any components.

I view this as a superb product. I believe i had a porous engine block and for this the product is superb. I was also awre of a heater matrix leak, this was also repaired by this additive and the heater worked perfectly after as well.

I believe a gasket could well be managed with this if the failure...if there is one is minor but realistically i can not say with any real knowledge.

i will post a picture later.

If the coolant is being pressurised it could only be a couple of things. The water pump is not circulating the coolant, this can be checked by unscrewing the bleed valves and seeing that fluid is pumped around. The other is that the pistons are creating the pressure through a leak. If this is the case when you stop the engine, fluid would leak into the cylinders eventually contaminating the oil, as can be seen in a white gunk on the oil filler cap or on the dipstick. Are you losing fluid?

Rubens not sure if this is still available but I have used wonder weld in the header tank for this same issue, it has alwaya worked, but not sure on a engine like the D3.

Flack Thumbs Up

Have you taken apart an engine that has had K-seal used on it! It's end of the road, get me home, 'I'm going to scrap the car in 3 months just fix it now' stuff .
