SRS / Airbag light - Please help |
|
Hello Everyone
I am trying to sort an issue on my father's 2005 Discovery 3.
The SRS light is on and I cannot clear the codes using icarsoft.
There is nothing tampered with that led to the light coming on, however I have got the following codes
U0073 - Control module communication bus off
B1A00 - Control module
B0028 - Right side air bag adjustment control
B0050 - Drivers safety belt sensor
B0085 - Drivers seat track position restraint sensor
B0070 - Driver's safety belt pretentioner deployment control
I have checked all connections under the seat and applied contact cleaner, completed a hard reset to no avail.
When I try to clear the codes it fails.
Please help.
Thanks in advance
James

Codes do seem to suggest plugs / wiring under the drivers seat so maybe worth anther visit under there. Stu

Hi, thank you for the response.
I have moved the seats forward and backwards, all the cables look good as do the connections which have been sprayed with cleaner.
I do have this come up on the reader and Wonder if it means anything
"Restraint system passenger indicator - indicator requested on - status off."
Does the above mean anything to anyone?
Could poor battery voltage contribute to this, reading 12.2v, starts vehicle but dies very quickly when on ignition
Many thanks

The codes seem to be pointing to the seat belt pre-tensioner, the pre-tensioner is fired to take any slack up in the belt, ISTR the pre-tensioner is located in the seat belt socket that you plug the seat belt into between the seats, check the connector and cable that feed it.
If nothing amiss is found remove the :"B" pillar internal trim ISTR there is another seat belt connection in there.
Check the passenger air bag has not been switched off, the switch is in the passenger door jamb level with dash, this should not course a fault just a warning if switched off. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

To me that means the orange airbag light on the center switch panel.
An airbag symbol with 2 next to it.
It should come on with the ignition and then go off.

I had a friend who had an early D3 with that issue, was water ingress on the passenger side from the sunroof.
Sorry cant help further but lift the passenger side carpet and check for damp and check any wiring in that area.

………………
That is purely to inform the driver the state of the front airbags. If the passenger air bag is switched off(1) or not (2) to enable a child’s safety seat to be fitted safely. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Good morning all
I have rechecked all the wiring under the seats and the pre tensioner cables to the seatbelt buckle's including the B piller wiring and everything looks fine.
I have seen mentioned about the clock spring, is that worth checking and can it be tested?
Many thanks

No I wouldn’t waste time with that. It would be a different code.
Do you get an orange light come on briefly , on the switch pack at ign on ?

i had this on my 06 d3 it started when i vac'd under the drivers seat cant remember the code but it related to the drivers pre tensioner fault so i took all apart cleaned then cleared codes sometimes once other times several clears to get the light off but if you caught the wires when moving the seat it would come back
anyway after lots of episodes of the light coming on i removed the block connectors from the black box there housed in gave the connectors a good spray with contact cleaner then several code clears and its been ok for a few years now
try cleaning again then erase codes try more than once if they don't clear and turn the pass bag back on but persistence was the key with me also just check the wires clipped to the seat base are not damaged also the wires are separated from each other mine where pulled tight against the seat chassis causing a little resistance in the wires
what code clearer you using ? please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Hi Eight foot
Thank you for your response. I will check out the black box which is I assume on the pre tensioner.
The code reader is icarsoft, unfortunately it will not even attempt to clear the codes, as soon as I request they are cleared it gives an error.
I will take a look

the black box houses the block connectors under the drivers seat look just inside the right hand side on the seat chassis or follow the wires im also wondering if your code reader is part of your problem i have an iid reader and as said earlier i fiddled with the wires a bit then just kept clearing codes/fiddling till they cleared, the connections did seem sensitive to any movement and def didnt like all being squashed together in the black box please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou
