Acceleration issue
Hi all
Car went for work done on balance pipe etc last week. Was driving fine.
Come back and the air flow sensor (I think) is disconnected. I was told it needed replacing. And it was ok to drive with it unplugged for a few weeks while I buy another. Image attached of plug in case im mistaken in its name.
I plugged it back in myself and it basically is really slow to move. Then if I unplug it again it gets power back.
I’m wondering is this coincidental that it broke whilst I’m repair or is it a chain reaction from work done in some way?
Am I best buying a new sensor or is it possibly something else maybe?
I know these cars do odd things
Any help appreciated!
Obviously don’t want to damage anything ignoring it!

That is the air flow meter. Yes, you can drive with it unplugged.
Like this it will use the "default" air flow levels.
It has been a while since I replaced one, but for the D2 it was very important to get either an original LR one or a Siemens one.
Not sure if it is the same in the D3. I would try to get an original one from LR to be safe.

Thanks.. Just confusing why it needs doing now when it was fine before
Apparently they’re quite prices for a new genuine one… so I don’t want to end up buying one for no reason also..Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Don’t know if it’s just me, but I would be mightily suspicious of an airflow sensor suddenly going bad whilst in for other repairs. Does anyone at the repair place own a D3 ? Had this sort of thing years ago when I put my BMW 323i in for some work, and when I got it back, the hazard warning light button popped out of the dash on the way home ( the button was fine before, and now would not stay in under its spring loaded mechanism). To this day, I still think someone swapped mine out for a duff one. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

That’s what I mean DN
Just can’t understand it. Maybe I’m reading in too deep expecting problems and bills.
Is it not possible to test this one with a multimeter or so?Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

It looks like its been replaced before with a second hand unit so the probability of it dying is high they are know to let go without notice. Britpart ones do the job just as well but if you want to try another second hand one I've got one lying about that works.D4 GS let the retro fit begin

Really? Do not be surprised if some repairshops will stop taking in 17 year old motors for repairs if it is always their fault if something else breaks too….
It is 17 years old!Best regards
Harold

I ‘really’ don’t care Harold ….. mine is nearly 17 yrs old and hasn’t been near a garage or dealership ( except for a wheel alignment ) since it was 5 yrs old (was still under extended warranty). Since then I’ve done all the servicing / work / maintenance on it myself, and because of my experiences as above with the BMW dealership, and even worse, with LR dealerships, I wouldn’t trust any of them with a vehicle I, or anyone in my family own. I actually couldn’t wait to get away from having to let the clowns at LR dealerships work on ( poorly), and wash ( read scratch) my vehicle D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. I’m not blaming or pointing fingers at the garage or trying to cause issues. Nor would I try get them to pay for the sensor. I’m literally just trying to understand what position it puts my car in not having it plugged in. And trying to avoid another bill.
If I could do all work myself I wouldDisco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Having the airflow meter disconnected won’t hurt short term. The electronics will sense this, and the engine will run on ‘basic’ parameters for that unit, which will no doubt be better than the signals given by your ‘duff’ one. Hopefully Bicycle repairman’s unit will solve your problem. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. Yeah I understand that. If this doesn’t fix the problem mind, then I will be taking it back and I’m sure they’ll be happy to fix whatever it is
Thanks again as always
