I have seen it the otherway around, the bare engine, incl heads, etc.. “big block” but keeping the engine ancillaries from the original motor/car itself, so the ECU’s and wiringloom from the original car are reused..
So yes it can be done i presumeBest regards

Snap, had to come in through last post link.
But now I’m in, I agree with Motolab, can’t see why it can’t be done the other way 3l-2.7l but it’s complicated and risky, worth it when you’re upgrading but probably better to hold out for a replacement 3l, have you asked around on here for one? If nothing else we’ll keep our eye open for you2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

l but it’s complicated and risky,
TBH i do not think it is complicated and risky…..
it is as complicated and risky as any bare replacement engine…
Just only use the bare engine…Best regards

So do you have the ability to have all the ECUs reprogrammed to deal with the different sensors on a 2.7 vs 3.0. The 2.7 has only one turbo vs two so the ECU is going to have to know that. The EGRs work differently so the ECU is going to have to know that - the list goes on and on.
It is a minefield without having the expertise to work through all the electronic issues.

We can think in troubles or in solutions…
Using only the BARE engine…is a solution
Just use all the sensors, manifolds, turbo’s and other ancillaries from your original engine.. on the 2.7l engine…. The only difference will be displacement, it is only a compressor
Fuel/air mixture will adapt , and if adaption is not 100% it can be mapped in the end..Best regards

Finally got around to fitting the 2.7 into the 3.0 and it works well.
The main difference is the engine breather being different and not easily interchangeable.
I just joined the breather pipes together and routed them into the atmosphere under the engine.
