Impact wrench.
Hi all, looking at getting myself an impact wrench and wondered what people on here would recommend.
Cordless would be ideal with plenty of power but not too expensive I’ll only really use it when doing work on the car. Thanks Lee.

Might need to give an idea of budget.
1/2 are the dogs danglies, but tbh are to manly for diy, 3/8 will be more useful.
Powertoolmate do offers, currrently have 1/2 gun/charger and 2 5ah batts 320 delivered.

Another vote for the Dewalt, its a beastWhen you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. The same thing happens when you are stupid.

I’ve seen a Clarke 18v one with 450nm of torque for a £140 with two batteries which I thought was pretty good. I don’t mind paying about £300 as long as my wife doesn’t find out.

Yea I have a Dewalt too. 1/2 inch drive. Only criticism is that is a bit heavy for delicate work. It’s got the guts to get some seriously tight nuts and bolts off though!

I've used a HiKoki one for plenty of work, really nice piece of kit, and the battery lasts forever.
Rarely use it on the 3rd (full power) setting, and when I do I find myself wondering if I'm stopping the earth spinning on its axis. As an example, last week I attacked a badly swollen and rounded wheel nut that the previous car owner (and his garage) had given up on. 2 bangs with a mallet to beat a +1mm oversize socket on, 3 seconds of "dugga" at the second setting and the nut was off.
I can only assume his garage still uses air tools rather than battery ones

Another dewalt vote.
Quite expensive when you have to buy the battery and charger.
Good though if you later Want to buy a cordless drill.

I use Ingersoll Rand which has around 1500Nm of torque, so it will bust pretty much anything but it's expensive. There are lots cheaper DIY tools out there, and I would suggest you select one with the best torque figures, and preferably with a second battery. Anything less than around 300Nm is only going to be good for light stuff. (bear in mind too, claimed torque and actual torque may well be two different things)
If you can find one with 400Nm and two Li batteries (3.0Ah or above) it should be eminently capable for all light to medium DIY work. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

ok just to throw this out there, as anyone who tows a Brian James tri-axle trailer, you'll know the pain it is to change wheels at the side of a road, so jumping on this thread, need a cordless impact drill for the 10" wheels. Typically we torque them up to 110nm, any suggestions?

Thanks Prof for the explanation on torque. The dewalt one looks good but also quite big.
Buying the bare tools isn’t that expensive if you have batteries already, unfortunately all my tools I use for work are festool and they don’t make one.
I do need a new angle grinder so I might get a cordless one and then get the appropriate impact wrench without batteries. Thanks all for the input.

Just to be different (and the rest of my tools are Makita as well) I use this one 580nm of torque... very light and compact as well... I've found the customer service for Makita to be far and away above Dewalt and so swapped all my power tools over

I have mostly Milwaukee tools and their impacts are fantastic. The heaviest I have is 1898Nm max but has stepped settings. The mid and lower power versions are good too.
