Change rear timing belt on D4, 2.7L - put Motor out?

Hello,

shop want to change the timing belts (front and rear) on our D4, 2.7L.
He called me now, that motor have to get out for changing the rear belt.

Normaly there is a "inspection flap" in the water-box, so you can change the belt.
But not in our D4.

Really? Do he put the motor out, or is there an other option/trick to change the rear belt?

Best Regards,
Thomas

for timing belts they can be done in situ = motor in the body
unless they just want to charge more to lift the chassis or motor itself which isbad sign would go to different mechanic

Hi,

okay - thanks for the info.

He told me - there must be a inspection-opening in the water-box to change the rear belt.
But in my car, there is no opening. The mechanic is trustworthy.

Best Regards,
Thomas

There is no opening, it's a bit awkward alright but not a body off job.

Yes - have seen it several minutes ago.
Its horrible..... Mad

Would be easier I think if we can lower the hole engine with gearbox..... isn't it?

German is no problem - we are german "crouts".... Laughing

Nope, you can't do that either. Looks difficult when it's a first timer but if you have a mechanic that has done them previously he'll fly it. Thumbs Up

I your mechanic is insisting on body removal you might need to rethink your faith in him.

Okay - thanks for the information.

He doesn't want to force me to have the bodywork removed or the engine removed. He just says that it doesn't work that way. However, he is not a disco mechaniac freak. Smile

Maybe I have to look for someone else who has done this before, or I'll do it myself if I have the time and feel like it. 8)

I was daunted by that job, turned out to be a doddle getting the cover back on was hardest part.
