Front crank main oil seal
Has any one had this problem, my 2006 disco 3 keeps blowing the main crank oil seal out, as a result, pumps all its oil out. It has been into garage for this a couple of months ago, but has now done it again. Any Ideas?? Its going back to the garage, but they are talking about a cracked oil pump??, if it was a crack i cant imagine it would dump all the oil very quickly, it would weep?

Had it on my last D3.
The Previous owner had used an aftermarket seal when he had the oil pump replaced.
I was recovered to a local Independent where the pump and seal was replaced, the new seal did leak after a few weeks and the garage took it back in and replaced it again and from then on it was fine.

Has the oil pump been uprated to the later version?
If its the earlier version fitting the seal to far in will block a hole and oil pressure will pop the seal out.
You are also at risk of the oil pump casing cracking due to a weak point in the casting, so need to get it replaced.
If you have the later pump fitted was it a genuine Formoco pump, non genuine pumps have been known to have oversize holes where the seal fits which can lead to the seal popping out.
The seals need to be fitted to clean oil free surfaces and left for a number of hours before starting the engine.
Only fit a genuine seal, Victor Reniz ones have been known to pop out.
Finally if you have the later oil pump fitted the seal can be inserted deeper into the pump, the new pumps have a part of the casting that stops the seal going into far, so the seal can be inserted about an extra 4mm which might make the difference.Andrew

I am guessing that it is the original oil pump, so no upgrades.
Is this the pump I should be looking at
https://www.jgs4x4.co.uk/discovery-3-2-7-t...omoco-oem/
"Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 Engine Oil Pump FOMOCO OEM"
this is from JGS 4X4 Landrover parts.
But get a genuine oil seal.
Thanks for all the info.
It all seems to be going wrong at the moment just fitted a new Suspension Pump.
