Spare Wheel Plastic Valance Attachment
The plastic valance RRY500010 in front of the spare wheel which is attached to two stays at the edges between which is attached by two bolts was loose on my Discovery 3 causing it to rattle when going over a rough road service.
I have replaced the two pop rivets attaching the valance to the stays. However, on the place on the plastic valance were one of bolts should go through it there is some damage which means that the hole is no longer a hole but a notch which extends to the edge of the plastic valance. I believe this can be fixed by replacing the bolt & nut which are badly corroded and fitting a new bolt/nut with a larger washer to clamp the valance at this point.
On searching for which nuts and bolts are required I see that rather than bolts there is a stud plate RRY500120 with I assume the two studs of which are threaded (is this the correct assumption?) but there is no mention of what bolts are required.
Can anyone give and advise on replacing the stud plate and the size of bolts required (I assume this should be a simple task but that may not be the case).

Yes, it is a simple task and you may be in danger of overthinking it
Even so, I replace the rivets with SS bolts, washers and nyloc's as the pop rivets are less effective on the plastic as it becomes brittle with age. If I remember correctly he studs are m8, or are they m6? Sorry, old age even though I just repaired one 2 days ago.
In any case removal of the bracket from the chassis should be easy and will likely need a refurb anyway!
If you had to, the bracket is easily made DIY, using bolts in place of the studs with basic tools, a drill and a vice. Oversized repair washers will deal with the "notch" in the splash panel.
Or have I overthought it too? yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Sorry to hijack this thread, but as my spare doesn't fit, could this be removed without any later issues?

Thanks PROFSR G for your response seems to be a straight forward task. I have now ordered a stud plate RRY500120 as it was only £2.85 plus VAT plus postage and will see what size of nuts I need when I get it.
Replacing the brackets as aja4x4 suggests is a good idea.
In response to Trailered Movements question about removing the valance, it is there to keep dirt from the road out of area in which the area in which the spare wheel is stored (which it does not do a great job in doing anyway). So if you are accept that you will get more dirt and salt from the road in winter in that area then that is the only downside (however others may have different opinions on this).

Thanks zig, wasn't sure if it was for that or shielding the heat from the exhausts.

The nuts/bolts are M8 flange type but any M8 with a washer would do the same job.

Hi rrhool
I notice from your photograph that a pair of cable ties have been used to prevent a crack in your spare wheel valance developing.

My brackets are rusted. Can the brackets be bought new or do I have to raid the scrap metal bin?

Picking this old thread up. Trying to get a replacement valance without re-mortgaging the house. The part number does not appear to be recognised by any of the normal landy suppliers in the UK, can someone point me in the right direction please.

Is yours cracked, or damaged beyond repair? Minor cracks can be fixed.Richard
