Best all round tyres
Hi,
I use my disco 3 for the road and off road when I go shooting in the fields, what would be a great all rounder tyre.
My current tyres are Scorpion Zero 255 55 R19 IIV M + S
TIA
Martin

Everyone’s got their own favorite - I like Pirelli Scorpion AT+, available in the same size.

General Grabbers AT3 will give you a more aggressive tread pattern for off-road and aren't too bad on road either, that said I've also run Pirellis and found them to be very good...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Just getting to about a year on a set of Duratracs (Done apprx 8,000 miles). Cant say that I've had any issues with them, they perform adequately on basic offroad conditions, and have been fine on all weather situations on tar.

TBH i doubt that... the AT PLUS is quite different to the older (just) AT
So for the Pirelli AT+. A +1 from me..

I recently fitted the Pirelli AT+ too... The reasoning was this:
The Duratracs were used on G4 Challenge cars - not because they are the best, but because JLR has a partnership with them.
The Duratracs are 10 years old (don't know the exact age, but let's stick with 10) ... meaning the design, engineering, manufacturing process are all 10 years old.
A lot has happened in 10 years. A lot of new compounds, testing systems, manufacturing processes, better simulations.
The Pirelli are relatively new to the market, and Pirelli does spend a lot on R&D. They had a successful line (previous all terrain) but decided to replace it instead of keep selling the same model for many more years.
That leads me to believe that the Pirelli's are a better tyre than the GYD because: The possibility that Pirelli would release an inferior flagship product to the market that gets eclipsed by a 10-year-old model.... is really unlikely. Pre-Production

The Pirelli AT was also a consideration. But by that logic, BFG A/T's should be the worst offroad tyres on the market.

Cooper Discoverer ATT / Avon AX7 (Both the same tyre, just branded differently)
Been fine so far on and off road. Had one "Oh, I might be getting stuck" moment, but it was VERY muddy and slightly uphill exiting a field. Got out though. 8)
About £125 (fitted) a corner.

When I bought the Discovery 4 a few months back it had just been fitted with Grabber GT which I believe is essentially a road tyre for large SUVs. It is snow rated etc and in fairness has not skipped a beat in the substantial snow we have had here the last fortnight.
But would be less confident in mud etc.
If I was to move to all terrain tyres such as those mentioned in this thread I was interested to know if there would likely be a big difference in road noise due to the more aggressive tread pattern and accordingly if the fuel consumption was be materially lower? (More fussed about the noise). Currently on the GTs I avg 26 around town with a long trip being more 30mpg.

i do not hear them TBH.... although when driving to the fitting station on just tarmac scorpions and back on thes AT+ scorpions i thought i heard a very very small difference..
nothing to worry about though..
and fuel... if you can measure the difference, you drive on tarmac to much
and therefore "pure" tarmac or SUV tyre is a better tyre for you then... you can not have both 100%
winter tyres with silica and more fins or knobbely tyres are not as smooth as pure road.....
but with the aerodynamics of a garden shed... i am not to worried in my D3 about tyres and fuel.. Best regards

Yes, I'm aware of them, did have a look at them, they do look nice. Not a huge difference though for the use in the UK. They are all much the same.
