Please HELP!!!! Manual Locking
What pratt designed this car??
So today my alternator died, the battery managed to get me back home, my battery charger died (melted) so I took out the car battery to stop it getting even flatter over night.
So I go to lock the car, push latch on rear doors (locked), push latch on passenger door (locked) push latch on drivers door (does not work guess its to stop you locking keys in the car) look for manual key lock on drivers door (sensible place to put it) Its not there!
OK its on the passengers door, use key to open door, crawl across to latch drivers door, relock passengers door.
Go round car checking doors, all doors locked EXCEPT drivers door.
HOW DO I LOCK IT without a battery fitted!!!
Please help so it can be locked until I get a new charger.Series 1 V8

from memory, lock drivers door from inside, then lock passenger door from the emergency lock on the passenger handle. cant test at the moment as I have a battery on both D3s, but this is how I did it two days ago after taking the battery off to charge and before refitting it.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Thats what I thought except my drivers door cannot be locked from inside?
Not sure if this is another fault?
When the battery is OK the drivers door latch works electrically to lock all doors, without a battery the latch does not latch like the other doors.
If they had put the manual key on the drivers door it would have been fine.
From Workshop Manual:
All of the interior door handles incorporate a locking button. Pressing the front of the locking button pushes the interior release cable, which causes the door latch to disengage from the exterior release cable. On the rear doors, the button also disengages the interior handle from the interior release cable.
I gues my drivers door is faulty??Series 1 V8

I’d leave it unlocked if nothing in it and hope it gets stolen ( sorry couldn’t resist ) -------------------------------------------------
if you cant hold on dont let go , it ill come in handy for something even if you never use it.

Note if your battery is totaly dead or missing like mine then remove the 3 shiny screws on the white plastic window motor, remove motor whilest suppporting the window weight and you can lower it as needed (put back to keep new window height for now or the window will drop).
Dumb (lucky) thing is that the metal arm the cable is attached to has a pad that pushes the plastic arm but not enough to latch, it needs the plastic arm for that but it is not strong enough.
I managed to bend the metal arm just enough to lock the door, it is not reliable but good enough for now.Series 1 V8

Hiya
Good to hear u at least managed to do a temp fix
If it helps in the future ref the glass, I got some window suckers which makes life a lot easier in not having to mess around with tape or trying to hold the window up as indeed know it can be fidley at the best of times
Also the cable that goes onto the door card pull handle I used some small zip ties which prevents it coming off the small plastic clip when trying to refit the door card
Hope that may help
