Turbo replacement and transmission cross member removal
Hi Guy's,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well! Some time since I posted on the forum as the old girl has served us well with even with a stuck turbo actuator which after lots of fettling failed to ease up to operate so it was left in the optimum position for the last 8 months.
OK so replacing the turbo without body off, the question is do you have to drop the fuel tank to get to the transmission cross-member bolts (well nuts) its not clear in the write up I found on the forum. It appears to be the case but would be surprised.. the tank is full so would rather not!
Any up to date advice would be greatly appreciated, have ordered the "special bolts" for the drilled out studs so should be ready to go... also an 18MM ring spanner which is not in any standard spanner kit.Owning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic > for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...

You don't need to drop the tank, provided some Muppet hasn't previously put the bolts back the wrong way around.
The front of the tank rests on a bracket through which the crossmember is also bolted. These bolts should be inserted from the front, with the nuts on the tank side! If the bolts have previously been put in from the tank side of the crossmemember, you will have to drop the tank at least partially to get them out.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

You only need to drop the cradle if you drop the nut down there.
Be warned
8 months with turbo on optimum setting. Well done

Isn't "optimum setting" the same as "stabbed rat setting" yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks PROFSR G for the response.. still a little lost as the nuts are not accessible as the tank and cover are in the way to get a spanner on them or are they captive..must have missed somethingOwning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic > for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...

At a point where you can pull out of a junction without sh*tting yourself and where it will go into limp mode when you boot it hard especially in cool weather.Owning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic > for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...
