Open panel under steering wheel?
Has anyone managed to open the panel below the steering wheel without damaging it? One of the Jesus clips seems to be inside it by the sound of it and it annoys the me while driving..

If you can locate the loose bit reasonably accurately, perhaps drill a small hole and inject some glue or similar to try and ‘catch’ the loose bit? Might be less damaging than ripping it apart?

Never broke any bits of it in the numerous times I’d used that panel off but you can guarantee at least one clip will go zinging off into the darkness somewhere.

I have a small magnet on an extendable rod ( very cheap) that I can work in the gap or otherwise use a strong magnet and drag the clip to the outside (or somewhere you can reach it)...

You need to lift it up from the bottom.

Thanks Pete. The vent (circled in blue) is easy to remove. Just to double check, the panel splits in two, separating the beige and black parts, at the circled in green? So I just try it with a flat screwdriver?

Ah! i think everyone did misunderstood what you meant (atleast i did)
i can not imagine that there is a lose clip inside that panel, or how it could have become lose if it is there....but correct me if i am wrong....Best regards

I replaced a missing Jesus clip with a new one.
While fondling the panel I noticed that there is a metallic sound from the inside particularly when shaking it. My theory is that the panel has, sometime in the past, ingested the clip. There does seem to be a way for it to enter the inside underneath where the clip is fastened.
It wouldn’t be the first wrongly mounted clip someone has done in the past. When I removed the tailgate interior panels, two fir tree clips some were broken. Possibly from the factory even and nobody had replaced them.

Yeah, Gareth’s suggestion was a good one. I’ll see what I can do
If you drill it with a 35mm forstner bit ... the ones for the euro hinges ... you can get covers that size to hide the hole afterwards if you wish..

I'd start with an endoscope camera before drilling holes
