Oil pressure on start up.
Morning,
Just a quick question about the oil warning light going out on a D3. Okay it's been standing for a few days but the oil warning light is going out quite late. Sort of time I'd expect after an oil change, not sure how long pressure takes to build up after standing this long.
I was trained as a mechanic so I do understand what I'm talking about but I don't know these engines.
My D2 V8 builds pressure up instantly.
Oil level is fine and clean, and I'm under the impression that it and the filter was changed about 5k ago. Only just brought it back from France and it's mainly been standing since the end of January.
Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Without more details in your profile I assume you are referring to the TDV6.
If so the TDV6 does take a few seconds to replenish the oil filter and the galleries on start up.
You can hear the cam chain tensioners rattle until the pressure builds up, which usually takes about 3-5 seconds, but I have known it to take close to 10 seconds. The oil filter partially drains back to the sump when the engine is switched off which causes the long re-pressurisation period.
If yours is a petrol V8 then that should not be the case and I would investigate further without delay.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

time or video how long it takes when the car is started in the morning. (not when, not started for many days)

As above - they’re not the quickest with the pressure building and light going out.

Use an oil that has a built in additive like Valvoline with chemaloy or Castrol Magnetec etc, to protect metal parts on startup.

Have you checked that the oil filter is fitted correctly with the nipple on the bottom correctly located in the hole at the bottom of the housing?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thank you all for the info and advice. Possibly just me looking for issues, still not sure if I'm going to keep,the D3 or the D2. But the replacement engine in the D3 only has about 30k on it and looking at the time it takes to build oil pressure started me thinking that the D2 maybe the safe one to keep. But it seems to be about 4 or 5 seconds for the light to go out which I assume maybe okay. The oil is spotless but as soon as things get back to some normality (?) I'll have some time to get my head round things.

The engine is a replacement, it had done 24000 miles and since it was fitted a couple of years ago it's done maybe another 6000.
When I get a chance I'll time it with a stop watch just to see how long it actually does take. The time I gave was off the top of my head !
If it's going to need anything major then it's out and I'll keep the petrol D2. My sister has already spent close to 10000 on it, not sure if that's pound notes or euros. But still the car isn't worth that much to start with.

I do not agree that the pump influences, I have changed the pump with my second timing belt, change made, a FoMoCo LR original, in an official LR dealer of course, and I can attest that there has been no change in the delay of the witness of oil, it continues as it has always done from new!!! already with 315,000 km now, it is a 6A, occasionally with a second bonngggg, and that is not something new either, sometimes when the oil change approaches, perhaps because the level is closer to the medium level, no Although I never need to fill!! I think that the delay is typical of this engine, the position of the filter tends to make the system drop and tend to lag

Hi, this is mine TDV6 Auto MY 2008.
3 seconds
Take longer time when really cold. Maybe 6 seconds
Video taken after resting and staying out for 2 days. night time + 2 -3 C and daytime 10 - 15 C.
Should I worry?
