Hi everyone about 12 months ago put dr tranny in as had bad shudders and revs rising and falling didn’t cure completely but big improvement, now about 6000 miles later getting bad again, can I add more dr tranny or is it time for transmission rebuild ?

I think you know the answer to that, Dr Tranny is never a cure, it just hides it for a while. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Shudders and slip are usually the TC, but if I was doing it it would be both.

Yes you can add some more drtanny and it will give you another 5k then you can add some more again and so on, until one day it wont help, but then the car will be so old it wont matter!
New oil plus the drtranny also helps, Mannol AG55 off of ebay is fairly priced.

Thanks everyone pretty much answers I was expecting realise it’s not permanent fix and guess another dose may or may not buy me some time, love the D3 but difficult justifying £3000 transmission job on a £5000 car , especially as probably could do with couple of injectors and air suspension sorting out .

Like any originally expensive car its the repairs that will kill them off, add in the high cost for road tax and its the final nail.

Hi OP.
I see you’re in Plymouth. It will be worth calling Bristol Transmissions, they are just off the M5/M40 on the M32. They will asses your car for free and quote. They did my 2005 D3 recently with the same symptoms, replaced the TC and confirmed that the gearbox was okay. Came in at about £1500 with a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty.
If you change the TC early enough you’ll be fine. The longer you run it like that, the higher the chance you’ll ruin the gearbox. 2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...

The problem is not always the TC, it’s a symptom of low clutch oil pressure caused by the oil seals on the gb input shaft failing mainly through wear on the main shaft  , all that Dr Tranny does is attack the seals with a solvent that make the seals swell and hey presto you have an instant temporary cure.
By continuing driving a juddering car micro-debris from the slipping clutch plates contaminates the oil and actually helps the clutches to grip and give a sense of problem gone but creates more wear to other components, namely input shaft and bushes, this continued driving and putting of the inevitable off only makes the cost of repair higher.
If done early enough input shaft oil seals and while stripped down replacement TC will cure the problem  It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've got a similar but more extreme problem. A 2008 TDVSE6, 220k on the clock, the dash lights up, suspension lowers, and it will only give me one gear until I switch off and reboot. Added Dr Tranny but no change.
I'm resigned to a rebuild. Are there any Sydney, Australia based owners who have gone through this? Who did your work, and how much was it? Are you happy with the results?

The place I have used is in Penrith, they only do automatic gear boxes. Good job and good prices. Its called "Marko Automatic Transmission"

Hi I had the same problem and was told new tranny. but me being me I did an oil flush and two tubes of lube
cost me approx £20 plus oil and lubes. really easy to do!
I have two very crude videos if it helps but now done approx 50 000 miles and still no shudder
