I spent a couple of hours scrubbing the residue of that tape off the tailgate of my D3 at the weekend. The sun melted the adhesive and my number plate fell off. Like you I spotted the 2 holes and figured there must be something missing or not supplied to the UK market.

Holes might be for Japan, where the plate holder is standard fit by LR

Finally replaced the rear and front plates but the local Indy have installed it slight too high so keeps catching on the door.
You would think a main dealer would know how to install rear Disco 3 or 4 plates with screws and to the screw holes.
I have seen a number of Discos with them installed.
So going back next week for them to prepare another plate.
