Transmission adaptions
Hi just wondered how many miles does it take to relearn the adaptions as I have a recon box valve body and torque and although it’s getring better I am still getting harsh gear changes in low gears at lot of the time at low speeds I have only done 140 miles since new box was put in in high gears
They seem a lot betterDisco 3 gone but not forGotten

It can take an experienced calibrator up to 2 hours to perform a full set of adaptions on a new transmission. You've got to drive in each gear at set speeds and throttle positions for the clutches not engaged for that gear to adapt.
Normally it can take a few hundred miles.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

if the box has been reconditioned, i wouldnt exoect to have harsh gear changes with a worn bnox, yes, but not a good quality reconditioned one, which should have had all the clutch plates checked and where worn, replacedBodsys Brake Bible

I had a fully reconditioned box installed not my own reconditioned I also had a new torque convertor installed and valve body done as well it’s not too harsh but can defently notice it if I slow down to quickly and then pull away again quickly it’s as if it’s holding the gear as a slow down if that makes any sense
Wonder if it’s worth while me resetting the adaptions with my iid tool but they must of done it as he did sit down and explain the box need a while to re learn the new adaptions
Another thing as well is my iid tool says there is a software update for my boxDisco 3 gone but not forGotten

I would not do any messing with it. You’ve spent a lot of money, you should let them deal with it.

If it is a ZF reconditioned GB and TC you should not have a problem and it should have at least 12 months warranty. Most ZF authorised agents only fit ZF reconditioned units, they don't work on them themselves, if you have not got the correct software that may be your problem, it is available from GAP for a small charge with their fast track system, but you should be going back and telling them it is not the latest software.
In the meantime run it as gently and as smooth as you can until the adaptions adapt to your style of driving. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yes mate it is a recon from zf and torque from zf and yes year warranty or 14000 miles
It has got a lot better since picking it up and seems to be getting better all the time and he did explain at the time that it does take time To learn the new adaptions it does seem smooth through the higher gears but
the low gears seem to clonk not all the time though
Do u think I should leave it another week and see if it does get better only got it back last Tuesday and only done 150 odd miles since it was doneDisco 3 gone but not forGotten
