Yes, I thought about drilling three tiny holes in the three tabs that stick up & attaching some fine tinned copper wire to them as a way to stop them dropping inside the light housing.
Did you melt the plug in situ into three pieces, then pull them out one at a time ?
I just want to make sure it doesn't drop inside.
I have a propane soldering iron with a knife attachment
Thanks

Exactly. Melted the plug into three pieces and then pulled them out sa tey became free. The bits all tended to stick together with molten plastic so i didn't feel they were going to drop the wrong way at any time.D1 300Tdi - gone

OK great, thanks... that's given me a bit more confidence to have a go at it tomorrow.
Did you do it on a D3 ? as it seems the back of the light is offset slightly from the center of the removable cover, makes access a bit trickier.
From what I've seen, a D4 looks easier to do ?

Seperate Ground
OK, so nothing special so I think I will just run in a separate ground wire as I have the terminal ends for the plug and headlight pin socket.
Looks like I have plenty of spaces to run my wires in and make things look factory vice drilling holes in HL unit.
I will have the DRL's supply voltage x2, one for power White LED, one for power Amber Turn signal, and a ground for that. So that is two grounds, 2 power in from my DRL module I got. However the DRL's will come in later as I have about 2-3 days work on those with painting the inner chrome black, except for the main beam reflectors. I will have to retain the side marker lamps and the reflective strip on the side for US DOT concerns. I also was thinking of using some black vinyl that has reflective properties and covering the silver rectangle in each sides lower outside corner.
Hopefully come away looking like this:

No go On Male connector Ebay
Previously I had put this up as a potential male terminal for the HL plugs. Just to correct this, I recieved this today and it is NOT the correct part. The pins are too wide to work so dont waste your time and the $7 on this.
