Replacement Altenator - Should I replace my oil pump
Replacement Altenator - Should I replace the oil pump at the same time.
The D3 is in the garage waiting for a new Altenator
Question is should I replace the oil pump at this time as well.
The D3 is a 2006 model SE with 160k miles

personally i would , considering weighing up the option for the cost of the oil pump Vs engine if the oil pump ever failed
at least it gives u peace of mind it’s been replaced seeing ur engine is at 160 k
but see what the general consensus is

Two completely different unrelated processes - the only common bit is the serpentine belt needs to come off.
At your miles the cam belt should have just been done long ago , if not it needs to be done so you need to look at the oil pump - if the old style without the webbing, then yes change it with the cam belt. If you did have the cam belt done and the oil pump was not changed and it has the suspect oil pump housing then get it changed now.
If you have a 06MY you could be OK as it is the 07MY on oil pumps that are problematic but check.
But as a basic function the only comonality between the alternator and oil pump is removing the serp belt - for a LR mechanic alternator about 1 hour, the oil pump and cam belt around 10 hours.
So to decide on whether the oil pump needs to be done you need to know what oil pump you currently have and if/when the cam belts were done.

Thanks for the fast replies .
The belts were done approx. 12 months ago, but the oil pump was not. I only purchased the vehicle 6 months ago off my brother.
Thought I would read up on the Oil pump issues. Wish I hadn't ....

If you have a 06MY you might be right (but not sure) - experts on here can advise.
If you have a 07MY you are in the zone for a replacement - but if the belts were recently done they may have upgraded the oil pump - when you do the alternator you might need to take a couple of other things off (not sure what) and see what oil pump you have fitted - that is the determinant.
Yes in an ideal situation just replace it but it is not cheap and would be a shame to pull it all down just to find you have the new pump - likewise a shame not to check and it fails.
So find out exactly what is fitted and then make decisions.

Only benefit of doing it is its one less thing to fail
Whilst the belt is off its a lot more work to get to see what the situation is behind the cover, but if you are doing it yourself I would have a look and see what the pump is on there.
Just make sure if you are doing it yourself you remove the right bolts for the cover and dont remove the water pump bolt near the cover (its hidden away under the cover and easy to confuse)
Lots of people have had pumps fall off as someone took out one of the bolts after taking off the timing cover leaving them with one extra bolt when it all goes back together, and not replacing it leaves the water pump very stressedMust stop buying shiny toys....
