Possible fault with suspension switch. |
|
Hi All,
Had my disco from new so know exactly what has ever been done to it. After 12 years is has now developed a suspension fault seemingly with the switch itself. Sometimes I select a suspension height and nothing happens. Sometimes I select low and it goes high and sometimes i select high and it goes low.
Yesterday the car was on low, as i had left it several days ago, so I started it and selected "raise" which it didnt. So I set off anyway and then got messages to say restricted to 30 mph as there is a suspension. fault. Then I fiddled with the switch trying to get it to go higher and it did raise but the diagram on the console screen did not correspond.
Question, If mice had got into the wires under the switch and gnawed through them could this be the cause of my problems i e wires shorting out? The little rascals did do this to my washers once and i found a nest of them under the bonnet living in the insulation!
The car has done 52000 miles only a6rrw

You can pull that centre section up to have a look at it, but first when you select a suspension change does the compressor run

It is quite possible that there IS some corrosion on the PCB board and the switch contact might need to be removed and cleaned. I use electrical cleaner.
I have a video of this and Will Try to upload it to youtube later.
the other cause could be some liquid spill that needs cleaning up from the switches.. 1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

Thank you to Globetrotter448 and G_Cam.
The compressor does run but when I select "down" it sometimes goes "up" and vice versa. So the compressor definitely works and when I stop the engine and select down it drops ok.
When I took the car in for a service last year I mentioned this and the garage diagnostics did not throw up any suspension error apparently ( assuming they actually did do it!)
I am now retired so cannot afford to keep going to the garage
I look forward to the video though as removing the central box should at least eliminate one possible cause
thanks again chaps a6rrw

Thank you very much G_Cam - very helpful. I will have a go at removing the console as soon as the weather dries up here in Wales and will let you know the outcome. a6rrw
