It should ratchet and keep turning, a bit like the fuel filler cap.

Thanks for that L319, is it really very tight before it ratchets?

Shocked When I fitted my RLD protector - probably about a year ago I remember reading (on this forum) that once fitted it can drop a little shortly after..... often caused by the cable twisting a little when tightening (can't find the post itself at the minute).

To prevent this ..... I'm sure it said.... wind up slowly - and watch for as long as possible - to ensure the cable does not snag or twist.... check after a journey that wheel has not dropped...(or something very similar).

There was no mention of a ratcheting effect - and I did not see any facility for such when I had mine apart. If I had heard such an effect I would of assumed it had gone wrong and started again.

May be of some help?

same here, after lifting the spare was loose after a day ot two, retightened, been OK since. There doesnt apear to be the "ratcheting" on the later D4's (or maybe any D4's with the hook style winch), mine certainly doesnt do this but I know my D3's did.

OK thanks, so that's another correction for the manual then, that and the 'soft close' tailgate Laughing

Yeah - I thought I saw soft close tailgate in there too!

When I fitted my RLD plate the spare didn't sit high enough initially. I lowered it and jiggled it about and eventually it seated properly as it had done before. And the winch does ratchet on mine when really, really, tight. At least it clicks once and I stop pushing, no need to knock the a*se out of it.
