Towing electric cable options |
|
Hi Guys , I have trawled through the site and read numerous threads regarding electric cabling and the fitting, delighted to see it can be done without removing rear bumper.
My question is (as a complete novice to the world of towing) which loom do i need ( ie part number). Typically it will tow relatively light weight units but they would be of very different ages and configurations so the electrics installed on them could be the latest LED units or units that predate LED. I am trying to hit the sweet spot so I can cover most eventualities such as , light boards, standard caravan requirements, power take of , fridge, etc etc.
It is for a MY14 D4 HSE
As i said treat me as a total novice , my current knowledge of this subject is dangerously low!

Get the genuine D4 towing electric 13pin loom, and you dont need to remove the bumper to fit - ignore the daft bracket that comes with the kit.

As per al cope, fit the 13 Pin Electrics.
If your going to be towing various different set ups from a 13 Pin Caravan your covered, if there is a chance that you will be towing 7 Pin trailers and caravans with the old 7 Pin N & S electrics then this will cover it if you fit the 13 Pin Towing Electrics.

Towing a trailer with LED lights is a bit hit and miss, normal problems is you lose the Trailer Indicater warning light, possibly a bit of flickering. Normal practice is a box fitted in the trailer to solve it but doubt this will help you if your towing lots of different LED lit trailers.
