starter just clicking
Had a look today at my D4 MY11 TDV6 Auto wit seized engine?
Possible to turn crankshaft with spanner but starter just clicking. Battery new and charged.
Still think it is the crankshaft, but could it just be the starter?
Next step of course is to look at the starter and test it, but would be interesting to hear from someone that maybe have ideas before

Would be good if it was just the starter. Unless you want to change the engine anyway.

Take the sump off first, easy enough, and see if there are metallic bits in there and you will be able to see the crank.
Should give a good indication of what has gone wrong.

If one end turns and the other don't there's only one conclusion
Check all the connections to the starter are good including the earth, don't overdo it or you will add a starter motor to your costs. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

On a 3.0 l D4 it is not just to take the sump off.
You need to first take the front diff off. A major operation.

Had similar condition of just clicking on a Range Rover LR Svc changed starter motor but no better , in the end it was the solenoid. Sometimes the answer is simplest one but not always. Hope you get it sorted.
