Lazy seats = lousy seats?

Hello,

Had a really annoying problem for a while now. Basically it's a slight movement in the seat occasionally when stopping/starting. Usually solved temporarily by altering the seat position. Dealer tightened all the relevant nuts, but the problem didn't go away.

I'm pretty sure it's the mechanical seat motors moving a notch on their cogs - or something like that?

Anyway - don't know why I did it, but I turned off the lazy seat option, and the problem appears (well at least for the last 24hrs) to have been solved. Heavy braking/accelerating doesn't seem to move the seat?!?!?

Is there any mileage in my theory? By enabling lazy seats - does that somehow do something that could cause the seats to move under cornering - perhaps they're not fully locked off or something, or just held in position by a maintaining a current to the motor?

Annoying to have lost lazy seats, but it keeps the problem at bay until the next visit to the dealer.

You can enable it on the system menu (press the 'i' button when the car's not moving to enter the settings).

Lazy seats enables different remotes (I have two) to remember mirror and seat positions when you unlock the car. Looks very smart when the seat moves when you unlock it!

I *think* the new HSEs also move the steering wheel (or is that the Range Rover).... ?

I too have the same problem. Big Cry I'm going to try switching off the lazy seat mode to see if that works.
or it might be a trip to the dealer.
on a similar note I'm having an issue with the wing mirrors not returning to their presets when changing from reverse to drive. Does anyone know if this is a fault with a module or software? Big Cry

I get this problem too - they return - but not all the way. I wonder if this a seat ECU/module - if there is such a thing - issue?

There was an issue with the earlier D3's and the seat bases were replaced under warranty.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

...problem is, I'm a big bloke, (not fat you understand Wink, 6'3" and best part of 16/17 stone. The problem with the seats isn't there for my wife who's (thankfully) considerably more dainty. I'm just not sure they've anyone at the dealer's who's heavy enough to replicate the problem - so they can't spot it on a test drive.

Thanks Andrew - will do a search for that. BTW - how come hitting that orange beach ball in your profile photo has caused so much damage? Confused Wink

there is a TSB regarding this which requires the seat memory module to be replaced and also does cause some seat drift.

one tip though, the new seat base will have a new seat memory module - check that it stores the reverse mirror dip correctly, if it doesn't get them to change it for your old one (which will also have your seat positions still in it) Wink

Excellent - thanks for that. After my drive home tonight - can confirm that turning off lazy seats definitely stops my seat moving. 8) / Evil or Very Mad

I have had similar driver's seat back drift with my 06 HSE for some time now.
Every 2-3 days I will notice the back of the driver's seat is not quite right and when the memory button is pressed the seat back moves to the correct memorised position; always back and usually about 5mm. It can happen overnight and when the car has not been locked. It is as if a rogue power surge occurs randomly that moves the back of the seat forward

I have had the seat ecu replaced twice and made sure with the dealer that the lazy seat entry set up has been correctly done. It remains an issue and despite EPQR to LR who keep on saying "have you set up the lazy entry properly" Rolling Eyes there is no commitment to sort it.
I suppose I can turn lazy entry off and see if that fixes it - may be try a third ecu Shocked

If turning off is a temporary fix that works for you - you'll be amazed at the difference. I didn't realise how much I mentally anticipated the slight movement when coming to a stop at roundabouts/junctions etc. It's great now - am going to mention it next time it's in the dealers but for the time being I can live with the fix.
