Sprinter Jack and Wheel Guides - field test

After driving up to London yesterday for a couple of meetings (and also collecting some wheels and drop one of my old ones off to a fellow forum member Laughing) I had a blow out on the NS rear at 50mph on the A40. Car was fine - it just felt like i'd driven over something and I pulled into the next junction off the busy road.

Time to use the sprinter bottle jack and wheel guides out on the field I thought...

Sprinter Jack was a failure-with the disco in off-road height the jack was too tall to fit (with adapter pin) into the allotted socket Big Cry
I tried in vain to get my IID to raise to super extended (I think I did get it to work but had the old user interface to battle through and didn't think anything was happening - think need to re-calibrate height now) .
Some bright spark on the Facebook group suggested getting some wood to drive flat wheel over to lift even further and thanks to the Greenford Dunelm I sourced a couple of pieces and drove wheel over and then no problem I could insert jack to lift and shift.

So beware - if you've got the sprinter jack and no IID tool take a couple of planks of 3x2 wood with you as you'll be stuck otherwise.

The wheel guides worked brilliantly - the only good news is that I had 4 x wheels in the boot to choose a spare from Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

Size of the rims will also influence this too. The bigger the rim the better! I would still carry the Sprinter jack over the chocolate scissor one any day of the week.

You could also try the trick to get the car into extended by carrying a bit of wood. Im going to cut a bit of 4x2 and give it a try. Someone posted a video recently by putting the wood under the chassis, and trying to drop height, and when it hits the wood, it will raise up to extended.

Carry a piece of 6x3 in the third row footwell for just such an occasion.

Wheel guide group buy here:

So looks like wood is needed to be carried alongside sprinter jack then - other sprinter jack owners take note Laughing
