that makes sense i.e. the gears
would be perfect if u could just get the gears then, assume a second hand module wouldn't be any good , i.e. if i could rob the gear and put that into ur one

This may be a stupid comment, but are you sure it is not just a case of a jammed unit. In which case you could follow Disco _Mikey's post on the forum on 'how to unjam a PBM'. Normal symptom is screeching when trying to operate the parking brake.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

No, it's not jammed, the brake applies some of the time without a screech. I'm just checking the sources for replacements in case I need one. I will be cleaning and lubricating the existing one and it's associated components first. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

I had my handbrake module repaired by the company trading in Blackburn trading as Prestige and performance, as there only 25 miles from me, I took the car to them and had them remove the handbrake module, adjust the shoes and fix the module and re fit, then bed it all in.
I collected the car the following day, and have been using it for 6 weeks since and have to report all is good. the cost of them doing all the above was £349, opposed to the £149 for them to repair your module that you remove and re fit yourself.
I thought it good value compared to the price of a new module and fitting
