I started with a DA polisher in fear of ruining paintwork with a rotary, it wasn't long later until I bought a rotary instead! DA's are good but results are quite slow, if you use common sense with a rotary you'll be fine and the results will come twice as fast!

Just my two pence worth Whistle

I was chatting to a detailer yesterday while he was valeting my brother in laws Bentley for my daughters wedding and he swears by a clay mitt as opposed to clay bars. So mich easier to work with and less chance of leaving bits behind around badges etc. Tried his one on a small bit of my bonnet and was very impressed so have just ordered one.

Also tried my clay bar on my wife's Fiesta as loads of overspray on the roof and boot spoiler and was impressed but is a pain compared to the mitt.

I prefer the clay mitt. I haven't managed to drop one yet like I have a bar.
I recently bought a direct drive DA polisher .. works a lot quicker than my other two polishes. Thumbs Up

ok ... I've previously been of the DSL mentality, i.e. if it can't fit in the dishwasher it doesn't need cleaning.

However, the car being sat on the drive for 4 weeks has obviously given the local birdlife some entertainment in terms of target practice and one of the Censored s seems to have dumped some industrial strength poo on my pride and joy.

after two washes (only of the poo'ed on bits Smile ... habits are hard to break ), it's still pretty clear where the stuff landed (and splattered Sad ).

Short of a scouring pad, what's my best bet for shifting it ?

been washed, re-washed, jet-washed, then tried 3 different clean/polish products I had in the garage ... still see the marks ... now highlighted by the gleaming paintwork surrounding them.

so ... T-cut or clay mitt ?

Some bird muck will just ruin modern paint work unless washed off the same day.

I'd go clay bar/mitt first and then if that doesn't work you ideally need to have it machine polished. Worst case scenario is it'll need wet sanding and then polishing, something which I've had to do once before after the girl tried getting baked on bird crap off with a green scourer! Shocked

In my opinion T-cut is a bit harsh by itself, but not too bad if you have more gentle polish stages to go over the area with after the T-cut. The hazy finish pictures I uploaded earlier in the thread of the Morgan, I was correcting that paint work because the owner used T-cut!

yeah ... I was leaning towards clay mitt. for a start it turns cleaning ( Yawn ) into a project ( Very Happy ) so I can cope with that.

Very annoying as - due to my "health hobby" keeping me off the road for 9 months - there was a 6 month old bird Censored on the 300 tdi and it just polished away first time. Modern paints Rolling Eyes

As others have said going backwards, a clay bar is no replacement for a machine polisher.

Im a bit of a detailer but don't fully trust myself yet so also have my car detailed every now and again to keep it and me in check.

This is actually my old Black D4 after the dealer mopped it through to full correction (35hr):
Whole car was horrific like so:

And after looked like a mirror:

Detailer for anyone interest was Refined Details as per images near Aylesbury and very highly recommended. He still looks after our cars now. No affiliation other than a happy customer!

Im a bit of a fanboy for Autobrite and if it helps anyone my standard wash procedure is:
Snow Foam onto dry car - let it loosen and remove debris as it drops
Jet Wash Car
2 Bucket wash with Banana Gloss safe Shampoo
Rinse
Dry with Reaper and Blow Dry
Project 32 Gloss enhancer

Then i also dependent on the condition use Just the Tonic for Tar Removal or Purple Rain for iron removal. Although these two will weaken protection so not used for every wash Thumbs Up

20+ minutes with clay mitt ...

Rest of paintwork getting really shiny, but still see the poo mark and feel parts of it, particularly in the crease.
