Trailer warning light - help needed |
|
Hi guys!
I picked up my 2006 Disco 3 yesterday to replace my 1996 300 TDI. Both have/had towing equipment. On the old Disco, without the caravan connected, when I started the indicators, the trailer warning light would flash once. When I switched the hazard lights on, the trailer warning light would flash continuously in time with the indicators.
On the new Disco 3, also without the caravan hitched, neither of these things happen, also the trailer warning light does not illuminate for a bulb check when I switch the ignition on (in the handbook it says that it should) either with the 'van connected or not. When the caravan is connected, all works perfectly.
Can anyone help me by telling me if this is normal or if I have a problem?
Many thanks in advance.

Mine only works when a socket is connected and it is the OEM fitted electrics. Does it stop your fog light and reversing sensors from working, as this should happen.

Same as countrywide.
I also noticed the absance of the 1 x flash at start up (connected or not) TD5 vs D3.
But all works as it should when connected, except reverse lights on the caravan ! Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

My tow pack was fitted by dealers, I never had it light up unless there was a trailer fitted and my reversing sensors were also cancelled. Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
"Duratrac"

Once again, thanks guys for your replies. Nigel - is your caravan more than a few years old? If your reverse lights aren't working it could be because the wiring was changed a few years ago. If your 'van is to the old spec and the D3 to the new, that would be the reason.

No the van is new.
There is a simple reason why the reverse doesn't work, I installed the wiring loom and I'm a muppet ! Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

My trailer icon doesn't light up unless I have a somehting plugged into the trailer electrics. Sound like your system's working fine.
