Long shot but don't suppose anyone knows of a garage south lakes area they can change rear discs & pads over next few days?
Just done the 300 mile drive north for a week with the family & started getting the grinding noise from the rear. Could do with replaceing before heading south on the 28th.
Typical happens over Christmas week

Thanks for the offer mate but I will have to pass as just checked map & that would be a 3hr round trip.
Good point about the sensor, I will have a look tomorrow as i'm sure it should of gone off by now, judging by the noise.

It's honestly so easy to do DIY. Brake bible on here, get a full kit from Advanced Factors.

Thanks guys now booked in to local garage 'Oldfield Road Garage Windermere'. £230 all in. Seemed to be the best i could get at short notice around christmas.
@ Apache, yes agree Advanced factors supplied my last set and done them my self, however only got limited tools with me so I'm gonna have to pay this time.

Picked the car up this morning and the mechanic said to me "only the OS rear pads had worn down and not the NS". The calliper was working fine so he was concerned the cause could possibly be brake pipes.
Took the car away and after about 5miles realised there was a strong metal/burning smell coming from the OS rear wheel and when looking closer realised it was red hot with steam coming off it.
Immediately went back to the garage. Carried out checks on the calliper again and concluded with possibility of flexi hose needing replacing.
Does this sound like the cause of the extreme heat and un even rear pad wear?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

It could be the hose, unless these are a special non colapsable hoses or the caliper is know to sieze? If the hose inner liner comes away from the rest of the hose it can act as a one way valve. Series 1 V8

I'm with the seized caliper theory, had it myself, both sides at different times and it's a known fault.

So when the caliper was removed he got a lad to pump the break, the piston came forward easily. He then pushed it back in with some pliors & repeated twice. Throughout the proces the piston moved smoothly.
I can't fully get my head around the mechanics of a brake system but I'm presuming however the piston is pulled back (not by hand) is causing the problem.
This car is the text book example of a love hate relationship!!
