I tend to not go overboard (SWMBO would disagree) so just use autoglym products. They are readily available and easy to use.
As has been mentioned, polishing only needs to be done occasionally (say once a year), the idea being to remove surface imperfections, light scratches, etc.
I use the super resin polish and a polishing machine, after a wash and dry. I then finish with their extra glass protection. This is easy to apply, wipe on, leave and then buff off.
Seems to last well. I apply more wax after a wash, but regularly "forget" during the winter as I cannot be bothered working outside as much
You can of course go very OCD and use a clay bar before polishing to remove more impurities, etc.
Also, when washing use the two bucket method, it stops grit scratching the car and wash your cleaning and polishing clothes in the washing machine before using again. Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
