re above about simultaneous throttle and brake application

this is definitely right as i found out (thank god ) when my throttle became jammed on the floor matt

once i stamped on the brake in panic the car slowed even tho the throttle was still wedged hard down

can only imagine its a safety feature and boy was i glad it did Shocked i kicked the throttle a few times to release but always had the brake on and the car didnt rev up until the throttle returned to the standard position and then all was normal

followed by me launching the offending matt out of the car Thumbs Up

They can take a bit of revs to get the torque converter to 'engage' and get moving in reverse, reckon you were easing off too soon. As other say, leave parking brake on and apply throttle, brake will only disengage once you begin to move.

How many miles has it done?

i sometimes have to park on a steep ramp in work which i have to reverse out. You have to trust the EPB and let it auto release and will be fine. If you take it off and try and find a bite whilst on the break it will dip and you won't get anywhere or it may roll forward slightly. I played with this when i had a dodgy EPB on a previous one.

waynearp, I think this can be put down to operator error. At least I hope so! Just find a nice slope free of other vehicles and park up facing down. Start the engine, put it in reverse, take your foot off the brake and accelerate. Do not touch the handbrake! You should find that the car will go backwards with no problem.

Of course in the normal run of things, you can release the handbrake whilst driving around, but there's absolutely no need to. The car takes care of that for you, so hill starts, be they up or down are a doddle.
