Aesthetics aside, the rubbing strips have the benefit of protection from the rear doors of neighbouring cars, which would otherwise miss the side steps / running boards.
Are you sure this is legit? couldn't be bothered doing that every time i left the car!

Off road height and side steps help - but the morons can never be beaten - and there are so many that live amongst us!
Especially damaging is the upper corner of rear doors - side steps, off road height or 'rubbing strips' (or whatever they are called) don't help much - even shopping trolleys are designed to miss your protection and impact the panels....
As for the 'dent goalie' can see these being a magnet for said morons..... pulled off and a kick given in a panel for good measure.... best to keep a low profile as best as possible.... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I've ordered the side steps, sliders, rubbing strips, Dent Goalie (FTW??) and some RPG nets. Ill park against a wall and at least 100m from any other car. And I will always park in off road mode.
And still some idiot will find a way to bash my doors
Or perhaps I'll just run the risk and call Chips Away (other services are available) now and then...
Thanks for all the advice. Gives me something to think aboout.
