Going to put a bearing on it I think, it's the cheapest option!

I didn't Jack the left hand side up, as was convinced it was the drivers side!? I'll try it before I go for the drivers side!! Was only using the scissor jack in the boot, my trolley Jack was stuck behind my car in the garage...

Mine was the same. Took the one side off only to find there was nothing wrong with it. Swapped the other side and it sounded like someone had put sand in the bearing instead of grease! 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

While the tools are out
Mine went within a month of each other, if that's any consolation if you change both.
Careful with the sensors, LR ones seem to be made of a very fragile plastic. There is no I in team, but there are five in Individual Brilliance

Still not had chance to get under it, had the sister in laws Vauxhall in need of a rear brake change, (offside rear pads left to wear down into the metal, the disc was FOUR!!! mm thick!?
It's now developed a knock from the front, hoping it's not an arm bush that's worn, sure it's already had track rod ends...

Finally!! Managed to change the bearing... Pain in the backside job from the start. Wheel nuts were a variety of sizes, my jack shat itself, so had to get by with the factory Jack. All of the four hub bolts fought me to the end, one of them rounded off
The only bits that thankfully were trouble free was getting the ABS senser out (had visions of that breaking) and the hub itself came out really easy! The old bearing was stiffer than the new one and also had a notchiness to it.. Great, that's got to be the problem sorted!!
Put it back together, road tested it. Exactly the same...
Fed up is not the word!! Can't believe I got the wrong side!?

Just wondering if the other side bearing cured the problem |
|
Did you manage to sort it.. I have a similar ... not exactly the same sound but am not sure if its wheel bearing, drive shaft, diff or transfer box....
any info appreciated

I've just done both front bearings but still have a sort of dry creaking noise developing into a whine and slight vibration, sometimes through the steering. The noise is only under load around 15/20mph . Answers to my post suggest "chassis ears" as best way to find the fault. I might have to invest in them if it gets worse.

Mine had zero play or clonking also, my indy put it up on the lift then they lifted it so that the wheels would spin and they could isolate the noise and immediately you can hear the noise coming from the right front wheel. They used a long screwdriver to listen in. They double checked the left wheel and diff, but no noise. Ear back to the right hub and it was reconfermed the right hub bearings are making the noise. Getting the hub replaced next week.
