If that was a hgv on 300k or 3yr oil changes I would say yes normal, but on a car not!
I changed the oil on both diffs on mine, oil was dirty, plugs spotless.
Fresh oil and drain again in a month or two and see whats on the magnet then.

Not sure exactly what it is but I guess a lot of work goes the way of AF due to them being repeatedly recommended on here and they offer a small discount.
Just let them know when ordering that they are getting the business because of this forum.
If you do a search on here, there may be a code to input at checkout if you are ordering on line
but I needed them to hang onto the goods for Geoff to pick up so needed to speak to them anyway.
Perhaps someone on here can advise what the discount code is?

Hi All,
Ok this has developed slightly, following jacking up and shaking all the joints, rotating wheels, removing centre prop heat shield and pushing that up and down / back forth......the rumble strip feeling has disappeared (covered about 100 miles since).
It has been replaced by a jolt as drive is taken up, ie. throttle on to pullaway, car moves a few ft, then a "jolt" (its quite soft and doesn't sound metallic) is felt and car progresses. Feels exactly like when I had play in the centre diff of my old discovery; as drive was taken up by the rear axle, then the front.
Here is a vid of my centre bearing / support, watch with sound to hear the noise as my hand movement is exaggerated. Bushing feels OK and doesn't have any visible splits.
Problem seemed ever so slightly worse after tight turning which suggests the front halfshaft after the CV is articulated. But also wondering if centre prop joints are causing the click on pullaway.
Have searched but really looking for prior experience of these parts failing to gauge if my symptoms fit!
Cheers
William

Hey William. Did you fix it?
Had my oil changed in the gearbox. Chap at Gloucester Auto Trans says my torque converter is on its way. Found bits of aluminium in the sump. But the symptoms I have are not a judder, so I don't think that's my problem yet. At £2500 for a fix I hope I have time to save for that.D3 V8 HSE

Hello,
No haven't got to the bottom of it. Its completely disappeared now in all driving conditions I've tried.
It might be mud inside a wheel etc which has fallen off or been dislodged whilst I changed the brakes, who knows I just hope it hasn't lulled me into a false sense of security and breaks at the worst time.
Will monitor and see where it goes.

Yeah I wondered if the cold had effected this to be honest as it seemed slightly noticable when weather got above 4-5 degree's yesterday.
We'll see. Ill run it back up to VMTP when I have time. Be good if it was the TC as that wouldnt cost me anything as its already been changed.
Cheers

Temp link seems very odd.
Don't know why I did it but I checked the temp of the brake callipers, just by touching them. Rear left was very hot while others were cold.
Not sure it's related to the rumble but looks like I have a jammed calliper. It could be related????
Another opportunity to have the disco off the road. Aren't I lucky

Rumbling/juddering is a classic symptom of a binding caliper.

Try doing circles forwards and backwards in low range.
Andi.
Edit, I mean pulling away, driving in a small ark with the frt wheels turned, forward and backwards.

I've had the symptoms you describe and it was the handbrake shoes catching the drum.
Accelerating to above 70mph caused the shoes to heat up and expand causing the judder, slowing down to 50-60mph allowed the brakes to cool enough for the shoes to free.
A strip down of the handbrake mechanism and new springs in the hub should solve.West Wales Section Discovery Owners Club

Yes. Have remove the calliper that was getting hot but it seems fine, so now looking at the ebp. Have stripped it and copper slipped the right bits as per Bodsy's bible (thanks). Now putting it back together. Springs look fine.
Still not sure it'll solve the rumble but there must have been something rubbing to cause the heat.
Will test the calliper properly when it's back togetherD3 V8 HSE

Changed the front NS drive shaft on Saturday. Old one certainly had reasonable play in the inner joint which had been deteriorating over the last 2k miles, started knocking on pull away last week and you could rattle shaft up and down when I removed it.
Seems OK now, even when towing the horsebox yesterday.
Front diff oil came out like melted chocolate so we'll see how that goes, don't think it's ever been changed (@148k miles now). Filler was relatively clean, drain was gunky and some metal filings but no chunks or shiny diff flakes. New oil in anyway.
