Not necessarily so.
Remove the airbag and check the little wiring loom first. It's a very common fault and cheap to fix.
If you were closer, I'd check it for you.Mods:

Rotary coupler and clock spring are the same thing
Did you check the wiring first like Narpy suggested?

To be fair, I've not checked anything yet, my Mrs drives it daily and isn't panicking to use cruise control and I've not really had time... It's on the list though!!
I'm pretty sure, in the pile of old invoices, it's already had a clock Spring, so really hoping I'll find a broken wire!! Is the airbag held on by screw on the back of the wheel and seat tilted right back in case the airbag decides to deploy itself!?

No, you need to make a small hook that inserts into a small slot either side of your wheel to release the airbag.

Is there a tool you can buy for it or is it just a make it yourself job?!

Thanks for that, I'll drop him a line!! When I come to do it and disconnect the battery, is there a procedure so the ecu etc can set itself again, or just reconnect and go?

You don't need to disconnect the battery, just pop the springs with the tool and unplug the airbag.
There's no power there at all and plugging and unplugging won't cause any issues.
If you want to be super safe, do it when the cars asleep but you honestly don't need to do anything more.Mods:

Cool, I just thought it was the same process with airbag removal, where you disconnect the battery for a while to reduce the chance of a static build up deploying the air bag when you take it off....?
Thanks for the info...

Have a pair of long nose pliers handy too, the clips on the 2 airbag connectors are very easy if you use pliers.
The connectors are colour coded too so you can't get them wrong when putting them back. Mods:

Thought I'd just have a quick look in the garage in case of finding something I can make a tool with, but think all the metal rod I can find is too thick...
Yes, call me a cheapskate!! Lol

Result! Got it off!
Got the loom out, but all looks ok, was hoping to see some broken wires, or something obvious... Don't know now if I can be bothered to get the wheel off and check the clock Spring or not.
The Mrs did say she got the volume to work ok earlier, while she was turning to the right!?

You need to look very closely where the cables are crimped, right at the little multi plugs.
The conductor part of the cable is known to break and fiendishly keep the coloured insulation intact.
Remove each pin and bend the wiring slightly to ensure all is still good. Do them one at a time returning each one to it's place before doing the next one.
For cruise, I think the red or brown wire at the end of the centre multiplug row is usually the culprit. It's the right hand cable I recall. Mods:
