Answered my own questions today and fitted the FFRR to the D3 i know this is old beer to a lot of you on here but the seven spoke ffrr looks ace on the D3... a lot better than the 18 " SE on before....

Land Rover Insurance did not increase premium just made a note of it..

United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Relatively new to Discovery 3, have a 55 plate and absolutely love it, fantastic family car, tow vehicle and have really enjoyed some local green lanes - love off road ability.

Advice on wheels and tyres situation please:

Car came with 5 spoke 18" wheels (Pirelli Scorpion 255/60/18). Performed well enough on and off road but they were all I'd ever known. I tow a race car on trailer (weight = 1300kgs total) and carry spares and get out green laning about once a month, otherwise it's general road use (about 15k per year).

At the weekend I went to price new set of tyres as only a few thousand miles left in mine, whilst there the owner of service centre who bought Range Rover sport and upgraded his wheels/tyres offered me his RRS v spoke 19" wheels fitted with pretty much brand new Goodyear Wrangler F1 tyres indicating 'M+S' and 'EXTRA LOAD'. I bought the package for less than the price of a set of budget 18" tyres. Thumbs Up

I fit them and used them on road this weekend, they feel and look great. Having read the posts on here though I'm now worried that the tyres are not suitable for my Disco 3. Big Cry

Questions:

1) Is anyone familiar with these tyres and will they be OK or have I made a rash buy?

2) In worst instance I have to purchase new tyres what would you recommend? taking into consideration the info given above and that I haven't got money to burn (thought I was saving myself a packet on set of 19's deal) Embarassed

Sorry for long winded post, any info/advice/personal experience much appreciated. Thanks.

PS. Before buying the wheels & tyres I actually rang my local Landrover dealer from where I'd purchased the car to explain the situation and ask if they would be a suitable 'upgrade'. They claimed the hubs are the same so as long as it's a factory fit tyre ie not some radical off road tyre, then they will be fine.

OK

So, two parts to your question :

1) - the wheels will fit fine, and although only weight rated at 900kg (D3 is 940kg), an awful lot of us have/are running these with no problems

2) Tyres - RRS tend to run 103/106/109 wieght rated tyres, which are to low for a UK spec D3, as these should be 111. Also, the RRS runs (usually) 255/50x19, whereas the D3 runs 255/55x19, so you are running a slight smaller tyre (if I've guessed your tyre sizes correctly)

So - OK to stick with the rims, but I'd get the tyres swapped (which is whats on mine now, 19" RRS alloys with 255/55x19 111V Scorpions

These are the FFRR wheels, as DG says MY2006 onwards, not the earlier 6 spoke 19" wheels. The 7 spoke wheels definately fit as the pic is the wheels on my D3. Quite a few forum members using FFRR 19" rims.

I just bougt a set of these 7 spoke 19" FFRR. Just to be sure, they are a straight fit? No new nuts or spacers?
Thanks Thumbs Up

Can someone tell me if these will fit?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MY2010-19-RANGE-ROVE...911.c0.m14

Ken made the comment on another thread that they need spacers.

Can anyone enlighten me, please?

The comment I remember Ken making is that these are 8" whilst RRS & D3's tend to be 9" width.
Don't know if that initself means it would neead spacers ????
But I'm ready to be stood corrected.

Thanks for the reply ronp, now totally lost Sad

Bought a set of these, advertised as a straight fit to Disco. As I have had 7 spoke FFRR on previously I assumed that was correct and they would fit.

Ken has told me in a pm that they rub the front calipers.

Ain't that a Censored .

Worst case I suppose I could change the tyres over to the old seven spoke FFRR, but would prefer not too.

If they were advertised as fitting a D3 and they don't then you should have grounds for returning them.

As the FFRR now (and has for a while) used the same hub/calipers as D3 and RRS, I'm surprised Ken says these rub. He's probably tried some, so have to take his word for it. Bow down

I know some of the early (pre 2002) 6 spoke FFRR 19's rubbed, as I tried some of those on mine (although I know another forum memebr who has these fitted OK)

These do not fit a D3 without spacers and I'm not aware that D3's have brembos fitted Al different size although I guess the fittings are the same

Yes I know we tried after another forum member tried them on and reported an issue

Cheers Ken - so brembos on FFRR are different from Brembo's on RRS, as I know of a couple of D3's with Brembo's fitted, and their D3 alloys (and RRS alloys) still fit OK.
