ANOTHER FBH QUESTION..... sorry
OK..
last week I met up with doz who cleared some faults for me and primed my FBH... I smoked his drive out and it seems to of been working ok since.
Yesterday I installed a Discostick FBH controller, I had the controller set so it ran up to 75 degrees. It started fine and ran well for about 45 minuets maybe an hour whilst i pottered about doing a few bits... I couldn't turn it off so in the end resorted to pulling out the (5?) pin plug from the heater.. it then stopped.
I let it all cool down and connected everything back up but had set the controller to run for 1/2 hour.
The FBH started fine, you could hear it ignite, small puff of smoke.... then it would cut out and shut down, the controller would show a red LED (fault present).. tried it again same, and again etc etc. it got dark I packed up.
Then yestarday evening I ended up buying a new iid2 tool from a local forum member, the tool was brand new and has been set up.
plugged it in cleared faults and ran a test on the FBH. all seemed well but after a couple of minuets it shuts down and the car display and tablet say something like "operation failed E.8"
the fault showing is
"B1D30-93 (2E) No start in test mode - component failure - no operation" this has happened 3 times now and I have cleared the fault between each try.
has anybody had this fault and get it sorted or does anybody have any ideas of how to fix this.
Many Thanks

100 views.and no.replies.?
Tried again last night with the IID tool and again.. It ran for around 200 seconds then shut itself down with the message E.8
I've been reading all the posts I can and I read one which days that E.8 relays to the fuel pump for the FBH
I'm getting the fault code dating "conponant" failure.. Can the IID tool be made to be any more specific to which conponant may be at fault.?

The IID Tool, good though it is, is not a patch on the proper Webasto ThermoTest diagnostic software for doing this. I don't think there is enough diagnostic information available over the CAN bus to the IID Tool.
I believe the Discostick controller has a mode to allow diagnostics with ThermoTest, so you should be able to connect up pretty quickly.
Priming the FBH is not a fault fix, and can actually make a FBH which is coked up worse. The FBH is not supposed to generate smoke, this is a sign it is not burning correctly.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi Tony
don't know if this will help but had a similar problem, first pull off fuel pipe to fbh and start engine and see if fuel drips out, might take a good few seconds to appear. If it does then fuel pump is ok and you probably need to strip heater and clean out combustion chamber, mine wouldn't run for much more than a minute until I did this.

It's pretty easy - have you seen my guide?
Someone recently sent me their FBH glowplug for testing (not everyone will have a tool that can measure such a low resistance to the tolerance required) and I have just posted it back as it was within limits.

Thanks Robbie.
That doesn't look to bad at all.
Is the FBH easy to remove.? if so how easy
I've red about connecting the water pipes with a 90 degree connector.. is this 20mm.?
If I do remove the heater but still want to drive the car.. what about the heaters fuel pipe - do I remove a fuse to cut power to the pump.?
I am also tempted to pick one up from eBay.. if I breal something on mine my thinking is that I'll have a spare.. now, people say that the hear is the same on the D3 as the RRS but are the connections the same or would I need to really buy a D3 one.?
There's plenty of 2nd hand ones on eBay for good prices so I might even pick one of these up, give it a good clean then swap it for mine.
Thanks for the guide, looks straight forward, I just want to get the bloody thing working
The pre-heat ability was a good selling point for the other half agreeing to getting a D3 (don't want baby cold in the mornings) - and its not working.!!!!
