The joys of living in the country side
My range never usually exceeds 350ish. Heading out of the smoke yesterday along the M40 to visit my sister having completed the 80 mile trip my range was higher than when I left Discovery 4 HSE

3 weeks tomorrow I've had mine, it's done a grand total of 215 miles. Averaging 26mpg going by the trip computer, I haven't done any proper calculations but I expect it to be slightly less.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Mine is calculated the old fashion way, at the end of the month add up the fuel put in and look at miles done , quick bit of Maths and the result is what it is MY18 RRS Autobiography Fuji White

Had mine 6 months now and trip stays pretty constantly at 27.9mpg even with heavy right foot. Went up to 31mpg on a 415 mile trip last weekend to South East coast.
I was getting about 32mpg in FL2 before getting D4 but I now have much bigger grin on my face! Firm not hard

Here's mine after just over a year, this is done topping the tank every time, mostly country roads and very few dual carriage ways or motorways

Like my Vodafone signal and iphone battery, my MPG is cr@p.
3 years, mix of short local runs or fast motorway runs:

I get between 28 and 32 from mine, the computer is about 2mpg optimistic so that's between 26 and 30 in reality and I don't hang about.
With a touch of restraint or long journey a genuine 30mpg is possible as long as you don't go over 75, I'm chuffed given the size of the vehicle....
But not as chuffed as my mate who has just got a brand new Defender 110 which does 31! That's actually more than government nonsense figures... and it is very cool!
I just don't bother, if it needs fuel, and I need to get somewhere then I just fill her up, less stressful this way.
If your worried about fuel you need a different car.

It's an exceptionally rare day where my view differs from Flack's but I like to monitor true mpg over time and use a phone app to do this.
I consider mpg as an exceptionally good indicator of mechanical health, akin to taking someones blood pressure. If your mpg dips without changing driving style you can then look for engine sensor issues, tired air filter, slightly binding brakes, dragging aux load etc before these issues catch you out.

Try logging the acual fuel use through something like the RoadTrip app, will give you the proper numbers to compare against the trip. You can then figure out the correction to apply via an IID so you get real numbers.
I've a strange feeling that I've just had my number discounted as not being proper, or real!
On the two occasions that I've run mph tests to compare the results of the trip computer to traditional brim to brim calculations, I've proven that the trip computer has been pretty darn accurate and never bothered with the traditional way of doing it again.
So, rather than argue the toss here with you DSL, I thought I'd go off and prove the accuracy of the trip computer and, over a period of 8 days, 818 miles and 139 litres I worked out that (against the trip computer calculations of 28.9 mpg), the average was, in reality, 26.75 mpg!
DSL - You're right, I'm wrong; the trip computer is optimistic by 8%! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

And as you have a nice shiny D4 you can alter yours with an IID to make it accurate. Cue Robbie's input on how that's possible.

Thanks I'd be very interested to know more about that
PS: It's not very shiny at the minute. 35 days and 3,645 miles in, it's a bit s**t high this evening! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
