I am considering buying a very early D4 from a main dealer. Its going to be a 2010/11 vehicle. There is one feature that is a must – I believe some models can preheat the engine and interior via the remote control key fob. Do they all do it or is it only certain models or packs?
Cheers Kev

What you are referring to is commonly called 'Remote Climate'. There is also 'Timed Climate' which allows you to set a specific time for the heating to come on by using the touch screen inside the car. If you have remote climate you will also have timed climate (but I think it was possible to have timed climate without remote if that makes sense).
Very few models have remote as standard fit and it was an expensive option, I don't think in 2010/11 it was even standard on a HSE let alone GS or XS spec.
The good news is that both can easily be retrofitted by many of the site sponsors or, if you buy yourself a good diagnostic tool that can edit the car's configuration and the necessary remote hardware, you can do it yourself as many on the forum have done. I don't believe that a main dealer can retrofit it - although I could be wrong.
You will severely limit your available choice if you only consider ones with it already fitted.
Buy the car you want - then get it fitted afterwards.
Only limitation is I don't think you can have timed climate on a GS (because there is no touch screen display) but remote climate can still be fitted on this model.
Hope this helps.

I recently bought a 2012 D4xs. I activated the timed heating with an IIDTool and the loom wiring was already fitted to allow me to add the LR remote receiver and aerial very easily.
My friend has a 2011MY XS and again it was easy to activate the timed heating on the screen but the wiring for the remote was not pre-fitted. He will probably go down the BAS route.

Just to add my MY2010 XS had the remote loom and I purchased and fitted the hardware myself (because I already had an IID tool to make the configuration changes). Its actually very straightforward.
As said, forum sponsors are likely to be your best bet if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

I can fit and enable for you. Doesn't need to have the satnav screen for the remote option, but you can have 4x4 info and reverse camera if you do get the satnav screen.
Xs seems to be the popular choice. Bodsys Brake Bible

Currently use time control on a 65 plate HSE : is it possible to get a remote control for that? Is it easy to install?

Worth fitting the kit Caesi, I've know a couple where LR had enabled the CCF for remote use when the screen option was done Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Would it involve any work/manual installation or just a matter of pairing a remote to the car?
don't really want to do anything that could void my warranty.
If it is just a matter of linking a remote/fob, great.
Given that I already have timed heating, would that be even easier?
thanks

It involves fitting a Receiver and an aerial and pairing it to a remote keyfob. All LandRover parts, so will not have any affect on your warranty.
Most require enabling in the CCF, but as Beanie mentioned, occasionally they work straight off if they've been configured 'incorrectly' in the factory.Bodsys Brake Bible
